    Hi!

I have a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab with the towing package. I just installed Firestone air bags this weekend. I also purchased a Eaz-lift weight distributing hitch.

What I want to tow is this:

2006 Keystone Outback 23RS travel trailer, GVWR 7000lbs, unloaded weight about 5060lbs (with propane, battery, and other tanks empty)

I will be carrying some gear, and 4 adults in the truck. So figure, 1200 more lbs roughly.

What is the realistic safe towing situation here? I really dont want to have to sell my truck, if I must, I will downsize my camper instead.

You will probably be pushing it. How far are you going to tow it? Also how flat will the terrain be?

I believe you're over the truck's towing limits.

Ya it feels right on the edge to me. The thing that worries me is that its alot of highway (65+), but its not too hilly. Still, I want to be able to be confident and comfortable in most situations.

My first trip is going to be 3 hours away, mostly flat, mostly highway.

I would say it's probably not real smart, but it also depends on how experienced you are at towing. I've towed big loads my whole life but I still wouldn't enjoy pulling that 3 hours.

Per Wikipedia, it says that the 2006 Tacoma with the V6 has a towing rating of 6500 lbs.

It is my personal opinion that the 2nd generation Tacomas are way overrated. I drove one of my friends 4.0 DC with a little less than 6500lbs and thought the truck was just being beat and pushed around too much. The thought of towing even near the maximium towing capacity is kind of scary to me.

too heavy.i'm at 3300 for trailer.4500 gvwr.with a load in the truck it drives good but it feels like the limit.i think you are realisticly over.no margin for error.good luck and be careful.

Yea, I am not feeling confident. I am thinking of keeping the truck and downsizing the trailer.

even though rated to pull 6500lbs, I wouldn't do it...stick with about 5000lbs max and you will be a whole lot safer....

That sounds like a good rule of thumb to me.
