I have some average to moderate rust on the undercarriage and was looking for a good way to prevent rusting on my 2016 tacoma.

A local body detail shop applied a diamond kote formula on the underside of the car-

I did not realize it was a heavy duty rubberized coating, I thought it would be more oil based.

Now that I'm reading about rubberized undercoating and the potential dangers, did I royally f*** up and will it cause damage faster with certainty? Or is there any benefit or protection that it will provide?

I'm seriously stressed for A)paying the money for it if it's useless and B) trying to figure out if I will need to blow torch and scrape it off sooner than later?

    Any help is appreciated...

Now that I am reading threads on this website, I am wondering if this is tar based as it does not look like hardened rubber.

So...you had this applied to your truck without knowing anything about the product beforehand?

Depending on exactly what "Diamond Kote" is, you may have:

    1) Just temporarily covered the problem up
    2) Covered it up with something that traps moisture in the future
    3) Actually stopped past and future rust

I seriously doubt it's #3. Need to know more about the product.

It sucks that you cannot trust people at shops. I was an idiot and payed for PermaPlate, it does no harm, but was a waste of money. As I had not thought of it before walking in, I just had what people at the dealership said to base the decision off of (should should have gotten me to say no).
