Did I ruin my engine?

I step away from TW for a few days and this thread blows up. Luckily my engine hasn't after 800~ miles since my screw up. I was pretty gentle on it the first few hundred miles just out of paranoia but I've romped on it a time or two and it seems to run fine.

Thanks for all of the advice though.

Everyone makes a mistake. Admitting it publicly shows courage as it can help others be more careful. Don't let it get to you down. You are just fine.

Since you didn't run it hard with higher RPM and 12 quarts oil, you didn't hydro-lock it. IMO, you won't have a problem related to this error during the life of the truck. Drive on and forget about it. You are smarter and will never do that again. I guarantee that there are 100's of quick lube shops that change a dozen cars a day that someone has done this before. You do it every few months but will never do it again.

I don't try to fool myself into thinking I'm perfect. I could care less about what people think about me, especially on the internets. I would much rather seek advice for a mistake I had made than say nothing and compound the problem.

I took my 2nd gen Taco to the dealer to have u-joints replaced as well as a basic service. My nearest dealer was 100 miles away. They added oil and forgot to drain just like the OP.
I didn’t figure it out for awhile. After the 100 mile drive on the highway it idled at about 500rpm and vibrated badly. The dealer told me to drive back and they would fix it. They charged me to clean the throttle body, injectors, etc and it still wasn’t fixed.
Someone behind me noticed lots of smoke when I accelerated and then it hit me. I checked my oil and sure enough I had about 10 quarts.
I changed the oil myself and never had an issue again. The truck still runs fine 60,000 miles later. No bad seals, no loss of power. The engine is over 100k now so I’ll say it didn’t substantially lower the life. Although I’m relieved I no longer own it.

    The OP is fine.

Can we stop all the fighting and personal attacks and get back to discussing the important issues? Now, tell me what brand of oil you prefer. What are the biggest tires I can fit without a lift? Also, is it just me or does the AT v6 feel weak? Do you like drum brakes or disc brakes? Please explain your answer.

I’ve done this, to a Detroit diesel series 60 DDEC V. Kinda. I dropped the oil and Walked away to address a different vehicle, and someone took it out. The ecu recognized the low oil pressure and killed the engine, but the person who took the vehicle out just kept starting it back up and driving. I found it halfway around the building, seized. I worked a double and had to replace spun bearings.

Seriously, this is true. TW is populated with a 9/10 majority of men who:
    Are engineers
    Fly airplanes
    Have track cars
    Had track cars
    Know more than me
    Done more than me
Have perfect pitch and require perfect audio
    Are competitive tribilogists
    Have PhD’s in aerodynamics application
    It’s ridiculous.

Also, I’ve dogged you out before about your “fiasco”. I’ll own that.
