I know a couple of older hunters who told me there's some BIG whitetail bucks in that unit. This will be my first deer hunt since I was 15 or 16 so I'm hoping for a good result.

Oh hell yeah I believe that's down in the San Rafael? I hunted down there a few years ago, but got the late hunt like you so it was fairly over hunted. I think you're going to be on the north side of the highway from what I remember. Not too people

It's the mountain range the kitt peak is on. It's South of ajo hwy and west of sasabe hwy. The res boarders it to the west and Mexico to the South. It's a pretty isolated unit so I have high hopes

Sheeeitt I'm thinking of 34c! Never been out that direction. Hopefully you tag a toad, could be some big white tail out in those hills. I know Couse had a big kill off in the last 5 years with some disease in southern az. The mullies that are coming up from Mexico are monsters

Really? I hadn't heard about a disease. Is the epidemic over now? Did it spoil the meat of the infected deer?

@mbmack1 My dads buddy who guides in the chiracauas said many of the deer were turning up with a harsh ring worm or similar parasite and he had also heard the same thing from game and fish. This was last October when I heard about it. My first buck came out of 32 about 6 years ago but this was long before the parasite and my latest mule deer came out of 40 so I can't honestly tell foraure! Rumors always do start to deter hunters so who really knows

True about the rumor mill. Hopefully it won't he an issue. I wonder if it was isolated to one specific mountain range because the deer don't move between ranges.

It's a good question. I'm sure you won't have any troubles though, that should be a nice unit out there
