I found a double cab LEER shell. Asking price $600. It is white. Before I drive the 200 miles, can anyone confirm it will work on a 01?

I have a feeling its for a 2005+ and the seller isn't being truthful.

    Good lookin camper.
Get him to send pictures of any metal tags, factory stickers, or anything that may list model or sn#
Measure your bed length/width etc, then call Leer directly to confirm fit.
    Good luck.

You have a feeling the seller isn't being truthful: WALK AWAY. Find another one.

According to Leer.com, they do make caps for the 1st gen DC's (apparently only the 100R?), but it doesn't quite look like the one in the pic you supplied. But it's hard to tell because they don't have a pic of it on an actual 1st gen, just 2nd gens and fords.

    http://www.leer.com/

Who knows, it's hard to tell. If you're really desperate for this cap, like above have him send pics of the tags, or have him measure the length and width for you. But if you have a feeling he's being shady, just walk away. Not worth it.

Where is it, someone here might be close and can check it out for ya. But if seller is not willing to even take a picture of it, screw em.

Leer makes a XQ for the 1st gen double cab. It's their highest model and comes with a lot of nice features standard. I just drove 1 hour to look at one for my 2nd gen and the bottom edge was all beat to shit. If I am travelling again I would request more pictures of specific areas or I wouldn't waste my time/gas. Very frustrating when dealer states "mint" "not a mark on it" Full of shit salesman

    • Insulated roof
    • Dark tint glass
    • Recessed LED third break light
    • Frameless curved glass rear door
    • LEER twist handle lock with hinged weather cover
    • Side windows with twist-out vents and screens
    • Full interior carpet liner
The XQ has the nice SUV style recessed glass, makes it look more upscale and modern than say a 100R or XR

My last one I bought new and the dealer installed it. I assume it just tap's into the brake light socket in the taillight

Very similar to the truck I bought last week. The 2004 Prerunner DoubleCab came with an XQ. Love the shell and all of its features. Last night I replaced the LED third brake light. Took about 15 min and just clipped the bullets into the connector. It looks like I need to visit my local LEER dealer though to diagnose a malfunction in the lock-twist mechanism.

    Thanks.
Mine has a white connector with 4 tabs. It is hardwired into the taillight wiring. Kind of hard to explain, but the brake light wiring has a hot (red) and black ( ground I presume ) wires leading from it. At the end of these are bullet connections that simply plug into the white connector.

I think it will be helpful if I take some pictures to post. Will try to get these to you by Friday.

Glad this worked out! Been looking for a Snugtop for my double cab and I feel ya on the search never ending.

Out of curiosity, did you have a spray in bedliner, or just the plastic one?
