Life time warranty means have fun replacing every year or twice a year if you go off road

Got them from NAPA, Cardone brand it looks like and yes, lifetime warranty. I still have the original axles and will reboot them and have them when these fail. Don't do much offroading, and if i do, it's nothing major. Thanks for looking out.

I believe Napa is or was the aftermarket cv to go for so that’s good.

okay cool, I was surprised how cheap they were. The reman'd ones were actually only a little less I think? Very strange pricing by Napa.

I was also a little surprised at the price, paid $156 for both.

Yeah, makes me wonder if they are as good of quality as they used to be. They still seem to be made like the OEM ones. I have it as a spare right now though, so let us know if you have any issues.

Even though it's not a hard job it's not exactly a fun job to do on the trail...although it's not like a blown CV leaves you stranded on the spot, can limp to a better spot usually

The biggest downside to the parts store ones are the shitty boots. They don't handle extreme angles well either but if he's only doing light offroading I doubt he'd blow one up. It's the crappy boot material they use that gets torn/ripped if you even blow on them too hard or look at them wrong.

Toyota uses neoprene for their boots IIRC, can take a lot more abuse

I've had way too good of luck with my NAPA reman CV axle on the passenger side. The boot has been rubbing for years, still hasn't blown out yet. That's even better than I've had with OEM boots. Napa is the only place I go for CVs anymore.

Also,@Robertocritser has a good idea for trail CV swaps. Simply undo the inner boot on the diff side, yank the shaft out, and replace with another CV axle of equal "parts" and reclamp the boot! Much easier/faster than fiddling with trying to get the diff part out. Just have to make sure the tulip bearing receiver and the tulip bearings are the same. Some of the cheaper part stores (like Autozone etc) have smaller tulip bearings

Yeah I believe that not all aftermarket CV axles are created equal. I have an FEQ aftermarket axle on the passenger side that's lasted well over a year for me and numerous difficult 4x4 trails. No clicking or damage to the boots at all, still going strong. FEQ axles are about twice the cost of the average Heri, Duralast or Cardone $70 axle you get at AutoZone though. I think Napa sells better ones, too. They might not be OEM but they are better than the cheaper Chinese ones.

I recently discovered that Toyota sells remanufactured OEM axles and I get those now. I just got one last week, going to put it in soon. Cost $120 after a $75 core charge return, much better than paying ~$500 for a brand new OEM one, or taking a risk on a used OEM one with unknown history. I bought a used OEM axle off a member on here once and the inner tulip exploded on me the first time I went offroading with it.

Interesting. Where did you get these FEQ axles?

LCEngineering sells them on their website, otherwise you can get them through various online vendors if you pull them up on google.

As for the OEM remans, most dealership parts departments have them but not all of them list them online, have to call and ask. And make sure they know you need an ADD one (or manual hub one)...they sent me a manual hub axle the first time. I didn't figure it out until I got it in the diff and went to put the axle nut on, lol.

I have those same CV axles in my 98. They have been in there 5+ years. I've taken road trips, commuted and off-roaded with them. No problems at all. Lifetime warranty as well but they seem to hold up just fine. I have manual hubs as well so they are not spinning all the time.
