This is my first thread, I was hoping my first one would contribute here but unfortunately it's a negative experience.

Over the weekend my truck was parked and was scratched. I'm trying to figure out if it was keyed or someone hit it.
I don't think it was keyed because why would someone key the front corner in 2 spots (second/lower scratch is circled in red). Plus there's no other "keyed" areas on the truck.
Maybe it was hit because someone took the turn too tight? But it's kind of high up on the truck?

Just wanted to know what your all may think to help ease my mind. Also, for those who have to park on the street do you have a preference where you park? I thought this was a good spot because it's open and less chance to get hit from people trying to parallel park.

    Sucks, thanks for listening.

Honestly, that looks more like a shopping cart swiped it or something. I'd think a hit would have done more noticeable impact damage and you are on the right basis with it not fitting a "keying" incident.

I agree. That's either a shopping cart or a bicycle.

I have a dash cam in my truck with a parking mode. In the right circumstances, it still won't catch things at certain angles.

Had a truck back into me at work, but it was a soft enough "push" that it didn't trigger...but if I shut my door too hard

Crap, I didn't even think of that (shopping cart, bike etc). I guess parking by the cross walk could also be a bad idea. I hate parking on the street.

Thanks for the input. I'm just "sorta" glad the truck wasn't targeted to get keyed, I don't drive like that much of a a-hole to piss someone off!

"knock on wood" but I haven't bumped into anything yet.

Funny you say that, my wife said I should have bought a camera instead of my bed bars.

Heres another for someone on a bike. Maybe an incoming car and had to squeeze between them and a parked car and misjudged, or someone just lost control.

It doesn't look keyed since those tend to be fairly straight. I had an experience in Southie where someone keyed my car. There were a lot of little shitheads who liked to vandalize cars for no reason and they keyed every car down a block, maybe they ate to many lead paint chips as a toddler who knows I am just glad I don't live there any longer.

Looks like it was hit, but not by another vehicle. Bicycle maybe?

Check out DrColorchip. I've used their products before and it's pretty good for touching up things like that

My Dakota before I got the Tacoma got a nice scratch on it sitting out on the street.
It was on a trash pick up day and after a storm so everybody had tree limbs out. Best I could figure it was from the guys picking up the limbs because a couple other cars on the street had some scratches too. Nobody could prove it. Now I have a dash cam with parking mode and a home security camera system. Also, the Tacoma does not sit on the street, I widened my driveway to make room.

Looks keyed, maybe a scorned lover or their partner?

I disagree. Most 24/7 dash cams have sensors and an accident like that likely wouldn't trigger it to come on. Op it looks like a biker was riding by and got too close and swiped your truck

I’d say shopping cart, bicycle, baby stroller or the like, hell even a kid with a backpack if the stars would be in alignment. Definitely not keyed and I’ve seen dozens of keyed vehicles when I was on the job. Something rubbed up against it and left the marks.

I know you're being sarcastic, but any amount of damage to someone else's property is uncalled for, regardless of how severe. People need to learn to respect other peoples shit.
