Years ago, After going to a Jiffy Lube, by the time I got home there was oil leaking from their install of the oil filter. So just say no to oil changes at JL!
Everyone has some good suggestions for you but if it were me, I’d steam clean all the oil off everywhere. Then change out the filter checking for any mistakes made there. Good luck!

    I’ll decipher this for other.

OP changed the oil in his truck.
He went to turn the truck on and allow oil to flow into the filter so that he could get the correct level on the dipstick. After starting the truck he realized he left the oil FILLER CAP off. And also noticed a mist of oil all over the engine. He then added 1/2 quart of oil “extra” to make up for the oil that “splashed” out the cap.

Then he noticed oil dripping out of his exhaust.

    What we don’t know is,

Was it really oil? Or condensation?

You’d have to have gallons of oil in the engine to have it drip “puddle” out of the exhaust.

We are missing some important information.
None of which is matters. As I think this is a classic case of “overthinking it”.

    1) you didn't hurt anything leaving the cap off for a second while you run the engine

    2) that's not oil coming out of the exhaust. It's water formed by condensation and it has an oily-like color because there is combustion byproducts and soot in the exhaust pipe. Stick your finger in it, it will feel like water not oil

Just wanted to clear this one point up.

The Tacoma 2.7 liter 2TRFE Engine takes 6.1 US quarts with a filter change as per the owners manual.

Used to be a common query in the 2nd gen section. Usually 5.5 qt is sufficient to bring the oil level to the full mark on the 2TR dipstick. And dipstick reading takes precedence over the reference capacity, according to the owner's manual.
    Float your rings? Wut?

While the engine is cold, thoroughly hose down your engine bay and exhaust manifold with a degreaser. Run the engine and visually inspect the oil filter interface for leakage. Usually you'd see oil bubbling out if there's leakage.

Most dealer quick lube lanes have a pressure washer wand hanging from the ceiling to blast away spills.
Until they start the engine with the oil filler nozzle still hooked to the fill port, causing camshaft/valvetrain damage...

You emptied the transmission thinking it was the oil pan, then added 6 more qt's of oil in the engine for a total of 12 maybe.
