Or is Toyota planning to address poor A/C performance in high temps via the TSB still?

I wasn’t aware there were issues with the A/C. What problems are you having? It hit 106 here last year and mine was still blowing cold.. 2017 TRDOR.

Did they give you any fuss about doing it? I want to move back home to CA in another year and good A/C performance is a must

If you are able to use basic tools I’d DIY - the TSB is a horrible multi-hour job that requires a lot of mickey mouse wiring and relays behind the dash and in the fuse box, all to install a automatic auxiliary electric fan in front of the condenser. The same basic fan, wired directly in so that it runs when the compressor is active, is ever so much easier.

A/C kicks ass in 3rd gen as does heat. Mine blows ice cubes in S.Texas every day.

Truck is new and i'm not messing around with anything that could come back and bite me during the warranty period.

If the TSB applies, first read what they do before you do it. I didn’t want that happening to mine.

If you’re worried about DIYing a simple fan and switch affecting the warranty, no other mods during the next 25,000 miles or couple years or so for you! :pout:

Outside a tire change, a bed step and a bak flip cover I have about zero desire to mod anything on this truck outside of OEM. I am kind of interested in the TRD intake and exhaust, but mostly for looks just in case the hot server at Applebee's wants to crawl under my truck and look.

I don't need sliders or a RTT to go to the mall.

You need sliders to protect the truck from shopping carts and car doors. That’s the excuse half the guys here use for their trucks they take to the mall.

I’d armor up with Mobtown plates, those parking space berms will crush your TRD pie tins too!

Curious what one would tap the relay into?

The compressor clutch lead- The fan will turn on whenever the compressor is activated. Or you could just simply put a toggle switch in the cabin and manually turn it on when needed.

You will have to meter it. I did the same thing on my first GEN and it was +12 V hot switched to activate it, I’d think these might be the same but based on everything else I’ve run into doing wiring in the cab, I’d definitely test it before assuming that one.

I had poor AC performance in AZ summers. I learned about the TSB and asked, but it was cool weather and they said it would fail the test until it heated up. Took it back in Spring and they did the aux fan. I don’t really give a shit about it being “Mickey mouse” because to me, it’s a Toyota solution not mine. Their problem.

OP I would also be curious how they address this in newer trucks.
