It’s not much better on the stock exhaust. A lot of the noise seems to come from the back wall of the cab where the vents are behind the seats. I know the additional air bags in the 3G forced Toyota to put larger blow-out vents in. Too bad they didn’t find a way to implement a better sound baffle.

Correct, and there's just no sound deadening at all back there which is why when things hit it it sounds so tinny vs. on a Lexus where a panel sounds solid. It's a bitch to do, but very worth it.

Dude, you CANNOT ask this question on TW.... 5.29's are the one solution to ALL 3rd gen drivability and MPG issues LOL You're going to force people to sell their trucks once they read this lol

Lol, so I thought from reading threads here and watching videos. I speak the truth! Honestly, I'm trying to give the truck time to "re-learn" the driving and see if it makes a difference before pulling the trigger on anything else. Want to at least have a baseline to go off of, before throwing money at it.

Yeah, understood.... I never even thought about the whole relearning process... I plan on 5.29's... for a bit more umpf, on the rocks... just a bit more pep, is all i'm looking for... And the to get rid of the 4th gear downshifts climbing the sierra.... Keep us posted if the truck learns or the wallet burns...

I desperately need to do this. I removed my rear seat cubbies and it made it so much worse

Did you find a noticeable improvement in overall road noise doing the back wall or are the vents still a culprit?

It was a very noticeable difference to me. It quieted it down so much, and made it sound less hollow/echoy inside, but I don't know how much that makes sense to read.

I figured I would just post results incase it helps anyone else too. Finally got it tuned. I haven't gotten to play with it in cruise control yet since I already did my multistate drive, but the driving itself has changed. I don't know if it's $800 better to everyone, but it's improved a lot. Personally I would probably do it again because the thing that I didn't like, or even downright scared me, about driving the taco was if I ever needed to gun it from a dead stop. There was so much lag that I couldn't trust a doing a left turn on a busy two-way multi-lane street, and OVTune seems to have cured that. The other gears do run better and would probably be more akin to your experience with the 10 speed ford. On hilly roads I'll go to 5th before 4th which I appreciate. It's definitely how Toyota should have tuned it from the factory, and I would trust OVTune's turbo build for sure. If I get any cruise control experience I'll PM you, but it's better. It's just not blow you away "wow this is a whole new truck" better. It's just "this is how it should have been from the factory" better.
