It dramaticly increases the spring rate. Taking a spring thats already longer than OEM by 2 inches, and 595 in/lbs, then adding preload, while mounted on a shock not designed to dampen the increased spring rate, leads to a shit ride.

Just get the OME shocks , designed for the 886's , if that's what you are gonna run

Just adding to what I already have. I will most likely get the OME shocks, but when financing allows. As for now, I kinda like the way it rides. Haven't been on a run yet but I did with the 885s at 0.85" and it seemed pretty good. I was hanging with an LT truck.

any time you go over 3" in the front, it leaves you with a combination of very little down travel, and the shock not being designed to dampen the stiffer spring rate required to lift you over 3".

thats what i was told to get by the reps on the phone.

shoudl i send the shocks back and get something else? is this all only to prevent a warranty from being voided by either ome or bilstein?

OME 3" lift with 885 coils. OME Shocks with TSB 1.5 AAL. 285/75/16 KM2s. XD Hoss 16" wheels. DDM Tuning 6000K HIDs, H10 6000K Fogs. BHLM. Debaged. 20% tint on front windows.

Well, the best set up with 886s (if running A heavy front bumper) will be with OME shocks and not 5100s. OME shocks are A better option when running OME coils... Will 5100s work? Yes. I personally don't know how 5100s ride with OME coils and never rode in a Tacoma with em'. When I got my lift, I choose OME all around and not a single problem.

I don't know how the warranty works with running both of them. OME might claim that you should of ran OME shocks with the coils instead of the 5100s, vice versa with Bilstein. (This is going off on an assumption)

Personally, if I were in your shoes I'd bring back the 5100s and get the OME shocks.

If you are keeping the 886's because you are going to run a winch bumper set up later , do as Krimson said above , return the 5100's and get OME 90000 Nitrocharger shocks , they are designed to work with the 886 springs .

what about the lack of a steel plate bumper for the time being? any reason why the whole thing should wait til the bumper arrives? It could be weeks and weeks for that and my tires are bald ass racing slicks. i cant put new tires on until the lift is in, cant put the lift in til the bumper is in ....one of those ordeals.

You could wait and do it all at once or just deal with the stiff ride for a bit .

Bottom line is get rid of the 5100's if you are going to keep the 886's

so I have to go from using a shock that costs $150 to a shock that cost $300.....whats up with that? Is that the only option if you want to run a dc with a steel plate bumper winch and fit 285/70/17?

I'm running 5100s and 886s with a plate bumper. Like said before, it's not the best setup BUT IT WORKS! If we were all looking for the best setup, these companies like Bilstein, OME, Fox, etc., wouldn't be in business.
5100s to Nitros is gonna be the same as a 6" ProComp to a torsion bar lift on a C/K pickup.

    Ok, good news I hope.
I found someone within driving distance where i can get the 885

before i undertake this project this up coming weekend, is there anything else I should know about running the 5100s with the 885 coils and NO steel bumper (at this time)?

is this going to be suffient enough to fit a 33" tire under it (285/70/17) (i understand about the trimming)?

anything i should know about the installatoin itself? I plan on taking it to a local shop for spring compression if i feel its too hairy. I have no problem letting the pros do certain things. But i meant anything like "never turn this" or a "dont move that" kind of tibit of info.

Also on my weekend list is the 2" AAl in the back.
Anything i should kow? Someone suggested turnign the u-bolts upside down to prevent the nut side from grounding out on rocks. anyting else? Does it need extended brake lines?
The 5100s in the rear are good enough to go along with this type of usage? (minimal off road to start).

thanks for your help so far. Im sure i'll be typing with greasy dirty hands on saturday asking emergency questions.lol

    Lol

You don't need extended brake lines with a 2" AAL

    Good luck on your install

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't turn the nut side upside down. Just won't work. You don't need extended brakelines for your lift, but when you are installing it, make sure to pay close attention to them so you don't over extend them. The best way to prevent that is to unbolt the bracket from the axle housing. When I did mine, I unbolted all the brake line brackets off the axle just to give them more play for the install. Then when done, bolt em" back up. I believe your 5100's will be good with an add a leaf, I did one with the stock shocks and was fine.
