Super white, and Ice cap are different. I wouldn't worry about it. If you do then everyone should be worried. If it was still Super white I would be worried.

No money, all went to truck...
If this were me, I would wait for another color. I' sure they have fixed it already but still, I would wait.

There's nothing you can do to the paint to prevent the peeling. No coating will stop the defective paint from peeling. Maybe a vinyl wrap though.

It isn't just Toyota. Most every car maker has issues with white paint peeling. It's not like Toyota has a supersecret paint formula. All of the car makers buy paint from the same paint manufactures. They just specify certain colors.

The paint codes are the same. Additionally, while my 2020 was called super white when I bought it, when I went into TIS a few months ago the paint color for my exact VIN was renamed to Ice Cap. That's right. Toyota retroactively changed the name of the paint on a vehicle built years ago. So I don't believe they're different at all. Keep in mind Ice Cap didn't exist on Tacos in 2020....

So this is on my Toyota app for my 2023. It USED to say Ice Cap. Now it says Super White 2. I also swear I saw it say paint code 041 when I was browsing the other day.

To be a conspiracy theorist, I think Toyota is obscuring/changing names to dodge having to repaint these. "We're sorry, Mr. X. The customer campaign is for Super White, but the system says you have Ice Cap. No dice."

It’s possible corporate dirty pool on Toyota’s behalf if that’s the case but I hope not. I think there needs to be a minimum threshold of documented complaints before Toyota covers the Tacoma’s 040 paint peel unfortunately.

Incredible that this is still an issue. Or at least potentially so.. I brought home my 23 OR in Ice Cap a few months ago so fingers crossed. My father’s 2018 Super White hasn’t had any issues so far.. knock on wood. My moms 2015 white Corolla has had various sections repainted several times as recently as last year. To Toyota’s credit they still took care of it well past the warranty. However clearly white has had issues for quite some time. There’s absolutely no excuse to still be having problems with white vehicles rolling off the lot today.

I did as well and noticed missing paint on the pinch weld. Waiting for an approval from Toyota to repaint this area. Hope this is the only issue. Purchased beginning of June.

Wouldn't that make it a wrap instead of a taco?

    I'll see myself out...

That almost looks like it was missed during production? As opposed to peeling/flaking.

I think it absolutely was missed during production. Just putting it out there for folks to check. Also hoping it is a smooth process to get rectified.

Toyota has acknowledged and addressed this problem on every model except the Tacoma. Perhaps it's not an issue that most of the public cares about, but trust me: if you own a Tacoma in Super White, you care about and it's a big deal, especially when great swaths of paint peel off the sheet metal and when any other Toyota starts losing the top coat: they pick up the tab for a re-paint.

Just sold my 01 with 317k miles. Red paint still looked great. You constantly see Gen 3 Tacomas with the paint on the lid and hood practically gone. Even kept outside and never cared for the paint shouldn’t deteriorate that fast.
