I've been paying extra and my next payment-due date is August 2020.
I got the low interest rate offer through TFS, but I still would like to pay it off early as possible.

My one gripe about TFS is that to pay "principal-only" payments, it has to be done with a check, by mail - still, with a year to go until my next monthly payment is due, I might spend the next year writing "principal-only" checks, anyway.

Since my mortgage interest rate is higher than my truck's, I've made a few extra payments/year on the house, too.

Debt is pretty dumb no matter what the rate is, bad times will aways come and a lot of people bullshit themselves by saying they'll invest the money since there's no incentive to pay it off. The truth is they're just spending it at Ruby Tuesdays, a couch payment, that tropical vacay and some BFG ATs on a store card. When they find out the likes can't be redeemed for shit it's game over. I've seen it time and time again in well over a decade on car forums, times get shitty and they find themselves at Carmax selling and buying a beater.

I paid my student loans off in 18 months. Ten years, tax credit, nope f that. I was already pissed that I had to defer them twice after the six month grace.

I pay double my monthly payment and once it gets to a certain point I'm paying it off in whole, then that money can be directed elsewhere.

No my interest rate was way too low to justify give them my money early.

Put mine on my Cabelas credit card. Paid it off the next month, no interest. Used points for a free gun.
Spent what I would have spent in interest on hookers and blow.

But hey, in all seriousness, these kind of threads make me wonder if it's any true indication of a lifetime of happiness if one pays with cash or finances over 6 years. I've been semiretired since I was 38 and have left a lot of money on the table that could have gone to buying more stuff with cash. Wouldn't mean I was better off or happier though.

I had the money to pay cash for my truck (settlement from an accident) but at 1.9% for 60months it only came to $1200 total interest. $1200 over 5 years is like nothing. There was no way I was giving them all that cash early. Instead, I invested the money. Came out a few grand on the good side of that deal.

I was lucky in that my High School actually did have a class that taught about finances. 401k, IRA, FDIC banks, stocks/bonds, CD accounts, loans and interest rates, how to balance a check book, Credit, Etc. I was an awful student my whole life but for whatever reason I actually enjoyed this class and am thankful I had the opportunity to take it. More schools should teach these real world applications. As to the OP's question? Yes I pay extra every chance I can, sometimes quite a bit extra, sometimes just a little. I figure the quicker I get this thing paid off the sooner I can use these payments for fun stuff, savings or investments. Plus lessening my interest payed is a plus.
