I don't notice any real noise difference from my OEM to the Borla really

It all depends on the inspection station you go to. Some have been busted for passing cars that shouldn't have, now they don't let anything slide.

Thanks. I got another for ya. So I pieced together a CAI with the following components:

    -HPS Air Intake hose kit
    -TRD Air Filter
    -TRD Airflow Accelerator

The only thing I may decide to swap back is the intake hose. It's sounds identical to the TRD Pro CAI. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

It's all subjective, it's not like the state has records of what Db level each vehicle exhaust is from the factory, and they don't meter the noise levels during inspection.

As long as you don't throw any codes or check engine lights you should be fine.

Okay thanks. No check engine lights and its been a few weeks. Maybe I can pick up an ODB2 scanner on Amazon to check for codes

As long as none of the emissions equipment was removed it is fine.

It's just a intake hose upgrade. The only thing is there is no resonator box, but i don't believe that has anything to do with emissions? Its still retains all the factory air flow sensors

So what is it about the exhausts then?

The exhaust system, exhaust manifold(s), exhaust pipe(s), muffler(s), and tailpipe(s), if designed to be so equipped, shall be tight and free of leaks. System components shall be securely fastened with fasteners in place and undamaged. All motor vehicle exhaust systems shall discharge the exhaust beyond operator, passenger, and/or trunk compartment. Unnecessary noise is herein defined as any noise which is louder than that emitted by the vehicle when equipped with the original manufacturer's equipment. A gas or diesel vehicle will be rejected if, at normal operating temperature, when at idle or any constant speed, visible black or blue exhaust emissions are evident.

Oh boy did I ever fail MA inspection...

Per the Toyota dealer who did my inspection (I was having them do new tires anyway so figured might as well), my single cab 2010 Tacoma needs 3 seatbelts and is missing the middle so it fails. He even seemed to feel bad about it but said if it's not 100% sure it's legal they have to fail it since they're being watched on camera blah blah.

I did mention that my title says it's a 2 person vehicle, he said it doesn't matter..and what if I put a car seat in the middle. After I got done laughing, I asked how I could do that without the child's feet hitting my shifter. But there was no changing his mind.

In the process of disputing it with the RMV right now based on:

    Title says 2 person vehicle.
Car seat can't be used there by law b/c I can't manually shut off the airbag.
A person sitting in the middle would have to put their left leg on the driver's floor which is illegal.
If not, they'd be turned sideways which is damn unsafe.

Should be interesting. The RMV will set up an appointment with me for someone to come and look at the truck and my paperwork and make a "referee" decision on it.

How did you make out? And did you stay stock or not?

9 days later I'm waiting still for the RMV to get back to me after sending in the online complaint form. At least I haven't been pulled over yet.

Haven’t gone to get inspected yet, but also haven’t installed the exhaust. I’m actually thinking I might stay stock.

I reckon it's wise to stay stock at least until the sticker, then you have a year to do what you want.

Yup, look at me. Still waiting almost 2 weeks later for a date from the RMV to get the follow up inspection

Yeah, I honestly love the sound now. So I still have the stock air box just replaced the intake hose, air filter and the air flow accelerator.
