Ya, here it's highway robbery. First thing they do is take the sticker off. Then if you fail you either pay them to fix it or pay the $35 for a R and come back when you fix it yourself. Can't leave with out a sticker of some sort.

I haven't found those stupid clips. I saw them last week. Might have thrown them out. I'll let you know if I find them.

Ok, finally got my inspection today. I'm convinced that people are just blowing this out of proportion. Had no problem at all, took it to the same place I did last year. Don't have any pics on hand of my rid, but here is a list of whats on it.

    3" lift
    bigger tires, 1", 265/75 16
Aftermarket front bumper, SOS plate bumper
    Aftermarket rear bumper, SOS
Magnaflow muffler with exhaust cut after axle
    CAI

Talking to the guy there , he said there was no change to the way they inspect, they have always inspected by the book. The inspection rules and criteria have not changed, just the reporting and enforcement of the rules. So if a shop has always done things by the book there is no real change for them. The shops that are having problems with the new system are usually the places that let things slide for a little extra cash, or the old timers that are resistant to change.

I just took my daughters '08 Corolla in for an inspection. I was mostly worried about the tires not passing due to the tread being borderline. It passed though. I got to talking with the dude that does the inspections as I've been going to this place for years. He also confirmed that they really don't do anything or look at anything any differently than before. As mentioned above, all these regs were in place already. If a truck has a lift that looks questionable, they'll call it out. Or anything really blatantly negligent. The only real change for the stations is the addition of having to upload pics of the overall condition, pics of the dash showing no alert lights on, etc. He said beyond that, people are getting worked up for no reason. He did state however that there are probably a few stations that take it all way too serious and over reach.
What I took away was that if you have a moderately good relationship with the station and there's nothing glaringly wrong with your vehicle, you've got nothing to worry about.
I did ask about my son in law's F150 with a 6" lift and 35" tires that extend way out because of the wheel offset and spacers. He got his sticker in Sept. before the new regs. The guy told be that they would probably enforce the issue of the tires and tell him he needs fender flares. He was unsure of the lift and had no intention on failing people right now until he hears or is told otherwise.

Good too hear. I have definitely found a couple of shops that were uneasy about the whole thing. From what I've heard, it sounds like they got busted for passing cars they shouldn't have been, now they are failing ppl for the most minor shit, because they are worried if they don't go by the book they will lose their inspection contract with the state.

Being born in Plymouth as were my father, his father, his father...and so on...back to the mid-1700s, I lived in Plymouth for 45 years. Moved here (Saint Augustine FL) 26 years ago and have never looked back.

I miss old friends, crisp clean air (there is a sort of musty smell here, but you get used to it), and real seasons (just 2-1/2 here). However I do not miss scraping and shoveling, having cars rot out from under me, or the Big Brother government and overall cost of living which seem to have gotten worse.

No vehicle inspections here; we voted 'em out 20+ years ago, along with the helmet law...

Nice but I agree in some aspects of having Vehicle Inspections as there are some horrendous vehicles out there that shouldn't be on the roads. And as soon as the wife retires in 10 years we are South Bound ourselves :D
