Did you get additional insuance after your build up?

I was just thinking about my truck and my insurance. Seeing is how I just put near $3,000 into my truck doign various things, if it was stolen or if i were to total the truck, what would insurance say about the overall value?

I have done work on classic cars in the past and I remember a Firebird I had had a blue book value of X amount. I went to the insurance companies office (it was a small time company bakc in the mid 90s) and showed them the car and they agreed the value was a lot higher than the $5,000 it was blue booked for. I showed them receipts for over $3,000 in engine work and a $2,500 interior. I ended up getting the car appraised at $12,000 and a policy to cover that much. My rates went up, but I expected it to.

So when it comes to a late model Tacoma, how did you handle the increased overall value?
Things like window visors and tint arent goign to make me cry foul if its not included in the amount given back in the insurance company, but Id be pissed about the $1,000 suspension upgrade and the $2,000 wheel and tire combo. Im actually looking at ome upgrades to the audio system and im sure that would run well over $1,000 and maybe $2,000+. So what should you do? So you could easily be looking at $5,000 in mods.

Anyone ever have their truck appraised after their mods and get their insurance policy updated? How did you go about doing it?

 

Been thinkin' 'bout it myself.
My 2000 Solara had Alarm, Wheels + Tires added, Totaling $3500+
Insurance Co. recommended added insurance to the tune of $7 per $100 (IIRC) of added parts or they weren't covered.
Required all Receipts to insure extras.
Seeing I bought it as a Company Vehicle, I took a gamble and passed.
Bought my Tacoma as a Co. Veh. also, but expect a lot more extras (Thanks to TW) so I'm considering it

Yes...After the installation of my supercharger on 2011 I notified insurance to let them know and sent them recipt of purchase...learned from my last tacoma where I totaled it with supercharger and didnt tell them it was installed and damaged parts weren't covered....its well worth it...luckily I only had to purchase another fit kit

 

any more info on this?
