I always thought ToyotaCare was just basically an extended oil change plan too.

Nah. You only get 2 oil changes per toyota ridiculous 10k oil change intervals. That and tire rotations is basically it

Google is your friend. There's a few available if you meet their qualifications.

However, paying them off is the big goal. CC debt is worse than vehicle debt.

    Yeah.
I bought one on my first new vehicle, a '92 pickup. Only time I had to use it was when one of the radiator tanks separated along the seam at about 100K miles. All they would cover was a reconditioned radiator, but it was recommended that I do the hoses and the thermostat, and the belts were noisy from getting coolant on them and I wanted those swapped as well. Basically only got the radiator and associated labor covered. Turned out that the reconditioned radiator had a dent in the top tank (fresh paint kind of obscured that fact) that soon developed a pinhole leak. I just went and bought a new radiator for less than the reconditioned one and swapped it myself.

With so many electronics these days, they try to sell you on the cost of replacing those. My experience has been that a bad electronic component will fail usually within the first 90 days. Most that last beyond that, and beyond the standard warranty period, will be good for a long time unless you do something to cause it to fail, which is then not likely to be covered by the warranty anyway.

Anyway, I skip the extended warranties. Like others have said, it is a bad bet. Even if you win a hand, it's a hassle to deal with. I heard somewhere once, "If they are trying to sell it, you probably don't need it."

Right, i was referring to the one they sell after the original 2 free ones are used up. Think the Dealers make it sound like an extended warranty when its pretty much just an expensive oil change plan.

Oooohhh I didn't know that was a thing. Might've bought it if the price was right. My father-in-law got oil changes for life (3k intervals) from the Ford dealership for around $600 when he bought his explorer - that is worth it if you plan to keep the truck forever

Typically, this is not your problem. Former dealer tech here and it was a headache for the service writers and myself because I had to write the technical write-up and they had to make the call.

If you do a third party warranty it's all on you but if you do Toyota Platinum, for example, it's the dealer's problem.

Focus on paying the credit card off, not transfering balances. Theiry being youll pay less interest attacking the debt at the current rate rather than prolong payments at a lower rate.

Unless you have gotten yourself in a huge mess it won’t be worth it to balance transfer to get a better interest rate. Huge mess would be defined as if you do a very strict budget paying for only your debts and bare minimum living requirements... you don’t have enough money left over each month to pay your credit card debt down in 18 months.

The best financial choice is to pay the card off and never spend more money than you have.
If you have to... cut up the card.

    Stock and staying that way
I don't have an extended warranty. Didn't want to pay interest on it for the years before it went into effect. I've considered adding one before my factory warranty ends (rolling up on 26k now). Any idea what the 7 year/100k warranty costs? I plan to keep it until about then.

Read through the thread, it’s not worth it. They say you can get it for about 1300, but that’s benefiting the dealer more than you. If your truck has a problem, it will likely present itself before the 3 years. 36k-100k is pretty uneventful for these trucks. Things start to wear around 130-145k miles, if I remember correctly.

That is an option to purchase before the 3/36 is up, but would imagine the price will most likely be higher now than If you purchased when you first got the truck.

It’s not a crazy amount about 3k but the interest is pretty ridiculous. Like 20% and just don’t want to sink all my funds into that and be paycheck to paycheck for that time. It’s weird mixing old money with new money. I have since learned the proper ways.

$1,000 in your emergency fund then all excess funds go to pay off the debt until its gone.
$3k can be paid off quickly if you are strict with your budget.

Then once thats over pay the Taco off ;)

1000 in emergency fund is a little light. I had 1000 but I got appendicitis and they found cancer. I didn’t work for 5 months and I was on medical leave with hospital bills adding up. EDD helps but it’s nothing like getting a paycheck. I keep about 2-3 months worth of bills now in savings just in case. Just food for thought in the financial portion of this thread.

So most discussion has been around extended warranty only going up to 100k miles or so, but what about lifetime? The dealer I'm getting mine from offers a lifetime bumper-to-bumper warranty. Everything (non-wear) covered for the lifetime of the vehicle. Only catch I believe is it is non-transferable to another party. So not good for people who like to flip vehicles every few years since you can't include it as part of a sale, but if you plan to keep it forever and drive it into the ground, think it would be worth it? I think the price they said was $2600. Have a 2018 Sport DCSB 6MT with Prem+Tech packages on order and debating it. With all the extra gadgets from the packages (Parking sonar, blind spot monitor, sunroof, dual zone a/c, etc) plus just the other normal things (Entune nav radio especially sounds expensive to fix or replace) and the unknown of the new TSS-P sensors, I'm wondering if I could get my money's worth out of it over 10+ years.
