Well...What do you get the truck that has everything> (That I want/need anyway. :D )

But after Christmas we'll be heading to our son's place and the mother-in-law is coming with. So I got these to carry her and her stuff:

Seriously though... With the list of stuff that SWMBO and her mother are planning on bringing, I knew it wasn't going to fit in the cab. So I spent $35 at Wally-World for a couple of 50 gallon totes which will provide dry carrying space in the bed. I didn't measure them and went to bed with visions of them not fitting between the wheel wells... So I did a trial fit this morning and was pretty happy overall. They fit between the wheel wells with a few inches to spare. And they're short enough to allow space for the tote that I put sand in. And they're high enough to be held in place with a rope across the bed rail tie downs without extending much past the top of the bed. So it seems like a good cheap solution to provide occasional weather protected storage in the bed.

In a sort of related subject, this is my answer to extra weight in the bed. I wanted sand - dry sand that won't freeze - for two reasons. First, I'm concerned about whatever I use for ballast becoming a projectile in the event of an accident. Second, if I get into a tight spot, the sand can be used to enhance traction. You'll also note the custom made nylon rope web. A few droppers, non-slip knots and half hitches and I don't think that tote is going anywhere anyway. :D I only have one tube (60 lb?) of sand, but I should get maximum effect since it's at the rear of the bed - and w/out compromising fuel mileage excessively. We're getting freezing rain right now so I might to get a chance to try it out if I venture out. (But past my drive, everything is pretty heavily salted.)

And lastly, I don't think I've seen so many posts with so few pictures...

I had one on my last truck. Trouble was - it kept too many other things out of the bed. And it was nearly impossible to remove/replace in cold weather. They look nice but I didn't care for the functionality.

Got a new battery from autozone last week, the OEM battery was starting to fade. Not bad though, almost 5 years on the OEM battery.
