I got the letter. It's the second one I've received. The first had a 10yr 100,000 mile limit on the coverage. This one appears to have removed that limitation. The dealer will do nothing if you don't have a check engine light.

I got a call from the dealer and they wanted to do the CRC frame treatment recall and the air pump recall and needed the truck for a couple of days and were going to give me a loaner. They did both recalls and there is a new top on my pump, I didn't take it apart, and they installed 2 new valve switches on the right rear of the valve cover. I don't know if its just me, but after driving for awhile, the "Taco Tic" seemed to go away of get softer and my fuel mileage jumped from 18.5 to 20.6, we will see if fuel mileage stays up.

Depending on when you noticed the mileage difference, it could also have been winter to summer fuel at the pump. I noticed about the same improvement as you about the middle of June.

Since the quarantine, I have been getting 3 weeks to the gallon =}. I filled up after I got my truck back July 10 and probably filled up mid June before. But summer gas at least in Rockingham county gets the summer blend that I thought got worse mileage than the winter fuel. Anyway I will probably fill up later this week and see. Thanks

I also track my mileage on fuelly, I can see every yr. on the scale when the summer fuel gets delivered and gives me a little better mileage. It’s pretty interesting to see your mileage trends throughout the yr.

Per my service advisor this morning, corporate is recommending the pump, housing and valve assembly all be replaced. Like Grizquad, they gave me the cover for it also at no charge. Mechanic made a comment, "like the hood struts!" A nice entry into the vehicle folder.

So I just spoke to my service advisor, there going to replace the secondary pump, parts will be delivered first thing in the morning. Looks like I’m going to be stock with 2020 Tacoma for now.

No CEL before I took it in, dealer replaced my valves, "pump repair kit", and added a cover free of charge, no questions asked

Made sure to take my unifilter off and replace the stock filter before I dropped it off

My dealer did the same. I had a recurring pending code. Called them and they ordered the parts on the phone. When the parts arrived, it only took about an hour or so to replace the SAI. I was very pleased. No hassle and no charge.

The covers obviously didn't come with the 2012's. In later years they did and it's part of the repair kit for the SAI.

I didnt receive the letter but the pump did fail on me. I found out by looking it up on their website that it would be covered under recall. However, the dealership tried to give me crap because "I have a snorkel installed and this may have been caused by offroading it." My reply was, well it is an TRD Offroad model and you sell brand new Tacomas with snorkels from the factory. They ended fixing the pump, diverter valve, and they did the frame coating and plugs while they had it.

If Toyota is going to pay for it, take it in a get it done. If your pump or air switch valves go out the CEL will illuminate and because it’s an emissions issue, your truck will go into limp mode. It will barely accelerate/maintain 45mph. It was out of nowhere too, no warning. Just started it to leave the parking lot and it fell flat on its face.

I had this happen a couple years ago. At first it was going to cost over $1200 in parts alone. Then I discovered the Toyota letter online, took it to the dealer and they replaced the air pump and switching valve to the 2013+ parts fully covered. Somehow it gets moisture inside through the pump and the switching valves seize up. The uni filter mod doesn’t do jack to prevent this and removing the foam probably lets more moisture through.

I believe one part of the problem is that the pump only runs on start up of 2012's. 2013+ pumps run at start up and shut down. In my opinion the Uni filter mod only addresses the foam filter deteriorating and jamming the pump issue. If I'm correct about the difference in run cycles, I don't understand why that can't be modified to match the 2013+.....

I’ve got a 2012, and the pump would run on start up and shutdown if the engine didn’t reach a certain temp.

It’s the ECU that controls it, maybe earlier 2012s had a different flash?

I received the letter this past Friday. I've already done the UNI mod, but I'll probably switch back to the foam and take it in so they can inspect/change the pump, etc.
