Despite living in a 2 plate state, my 2013 was delivered without holes drilled and I've been running it that way since. Drive by at least 3-4 cops a day and no tickets yet.

Told mine that if he put a dealer sticker, frame on the plate or holes or a plate on the front the deal was off.

I told them I'm paying for the truck, if they wanted to use it as an Ad then they can pay me to drive it.....

    nothing cool
I don't have a cool story of me being a badass and telling the dealership not to drill holes in my bumper. But I did buy it used and by the time all the paperwork was done it was dark outside. The salesman had my old front license plate from my Ford Ranger in his hand and asked me if I wanted it on my Tacaoma. I said "sure. I assumed there were already holes there. Then I saw one of the employees out the window with a drill gun looking at my bumper. I ran out the front door as fast as I could and told the dude "don't you f**king do it" ( I cuss a lot, whatever).

It wasn't a big deal but I scared the crap out of that young kid with his drill gun. We don't need front license plates in KS.

I know here in Canada that the dealer has to drill the holes before it leaves the lot, if your province requires a front plate(Alberta is exceeded for not needing a front plate). So it could be a similar law in your state that they need to be drilled into your bumper before it leaves the dealership. I think that it could also be a liability for them if you were pulled over and didn't have your holes for your front plate. Then some people I am sure would go back to the dealership and fight it because they got a ticket, blah, blah, blah.

Both my 2009 and my 2013 had holes. I was thinking maybe they were done at Gulf States but the more I think about it, it was the dealer. I am installing a N-Fab light bar that is going to cover the top 2" of the plate. I was a little worried at one time but the LEOs around here must be very lax about front plates. I see everything everyday from plates on dash to unauthorized to nothing at all. Even though the N-Fab bar I received has the tabs I am leaving the plate on the bumper. Call the DMV about it and they will just read you the law.

My 2013 came with the pre drilled holes in the front bumper, and living in California I'd rather have the front license plate on than get a fix-it ticket from the Man. I didn't want the paint on the bumper to get all scratched up, my solution:

    These things....

Here's the clearance of the license plate from the bumper...ignore the feet!

Specifically told dealer not to make holes. No front plate for me and no issues with John Law.

I have holes in my bumper from the install of the plate, and in Cal. they required a front plate.
What I did was to remove the plate and replace the screws with some smaller ones and paint them the color of the bumper. I have run without front plates for 2 years now and have not been sited for not having a front plate. My Honda Pilot has not had a front plate for 3 years also.

You won't be cited if you're never sited (or sighted)...:)

That is luck until you piss a cop off or you find yourself pulled over with an officer with time to kill.

If the vehicle is originally equipped with provisions to mount a front plate then the plate is required. If it wasn't provided from the manufacturer then you aren't required to modify your vehicle to accept said plate. This is my understanding though last I checked was in HS and I can totally be wrong.

This, it's a BUMPER and a truck not a show car. Some of the things folks get worked up over.
