Well I for one went Full Monty. I had the six disc factory unit but now I have a kenwood 8140 head unit with Garmin Nav, and Sirius Radio. On top of that I ran a JL stealthbox to fit in the center console (Contains a 10" W3) since I have the Access Cable. In the front doors Im running the JL ZR components which are amazing. In the Rear doors i have some JL C5 coaxials. All of which is being powered by a JL 900/5 HD amplifier.

    I LOVE IT. NO regrets:D:D:D:D

My stock CD player stopped working so I replaced the hu with the JVC with navigation and dvd player. Upgraded all the speakers too, sounds great. Just finished watching the new transformers movie while driving back and forth to work, it was awesome.

I swapped out my factory 6-disc for an Alpine HU. I was happy with the sound but I like the ipod/sat radio etc. of the alpine so wanted to change. The factory bass wasn't up to par either so dropped in a small amp and 10" sub for a bit extra kick.

I've never listened to a Taco JBL system but I have the JBL in my 04 4Runner and am extremely happy with it (10speaker system with center channel and sub-again not sure if it's the same in Taco) but if it wasn't for lack of features of the head unit I'd never swap it out.

I knew I would be replacing stock. I listen to my ipod 99% of the time, and usually listen loud! I could tell there was a lot of each song that was missing, and was bothered that I could turn the radio all the way up and pretty much still have a conversation in the truck....sad. With any decent volume, the quality of the music went to crap as well.

Already replaced the headunit, which was a huge improvement in volume and a good improvement in sound quality. Ive got some Alpine SPS-600C components & JL Audio amp (and some baffles from Marv!), and a Pioneer sub (Marvs suggestion) & Kenwood amp on the way and hopefully its all going in this weekend.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/71151-how-does-audio-setup-look.html

I did a lot of research into how deep I wanted to go in to replacing things. In a perfect world I would have gone with more expensive components, would be able to do a bunch of sound deadening, more expensive sub etc. but I had to balance some. I wanted a big improvement without a big checkbook impact. After reading lots of reviews etc. I think I hit a fairly level line.

Im looking forward to being able to get some volume out of the system, and having it really bloom with clarity and thump!

I HIGHLY recomend you all look at Amazon for speakers and amps. They have some insane deals at times. I got my Sony head unit, amp, satelite box, and HD tuner all for under $500 as a package. It was $1500 off, yes $1500!!

I know next to nothing about audio systems, while this is not the best quality speakers it seems like it's not a bad setup to me. Any thoughts of it?

I installed the JVC KD-HDR50 head unit with Pioneer TS-A6882R speakers. The sub I bough was a lemon and getting replaced.

Crazy expensive but Ive read good things. Personally I think you would be better off dropping Mr Marv a line and having him build you something.

None yet, but sure to come!
These are VERY nice boxes, and naturally they are tuned perfectly to the JL Subs. I actually dont think that is too bad of a price for a pair of 10's in a custom fit box. I would be interested to hear from someone who has this for their taco. I saw one in a GMC Sierra that fit so well it looked OEM.

Great, thanks for the help. I've had friends put smaller subs in their jeeps for $200 more than the JL Stealthbox costs, so the price isn't really bothering me too much. Just don't want to pay that much for crappy sound.

I had the base system for a day. I didn't buy the jbl because I knew I'd be ripping it out. And I replaced all of the door speakers the second day I had it.

changed everything. aftermarket speakers, navigation headunit, and custom sub box for access cab tacoma. Worth every penny. there is no comparison with the stock system.
