You sir, just don’t understand Tacomas.

Toyota doesn’t need to play keep up with the joneses for Tacos to sell well. They update it enough each year to stay relevant while making sure they maintain a design that is bulletproof. Tacoma’s biggest selling point for many is it’s tried and true design.... you know you’re getting a quality truck when you buy one.

If you want a half baked truck with bleeding edge tech and questionable reliability, then knock yourself out with Ford, Chevy or Dodge

@Bowhuntercoop Holy shit. That's crazy re sale value. This is my 2nd Tacoma ever and I feel like the more popular they have become throughout the years, the best it is for resale right now.

it was me. it does one thing very well. go fast and quick. 0-60 in 3.94 seconds quick. with an auto. but how much of that does the average person want to do or can do? in order for ME to justify a 40k car in the garage just sitting, it needs to do alot for me when i do use it. It just wasn't doing a lot for me and that was my stupidity in thinking i could become a "mustang person" when i really am more of a 4x4/suv kind of guy. I go places where the pavement ends and i don't just cruise around on paved roads. lesson learned so with the ticking motor- now my son is having the same in his 2017 gt- i decided to cut and run. I lost probably about $10k in the whole deal meaning my trade i used for the stang and the stang as trade didn't quite pay for the whole taco so i had to write a check. But that would have only gotten worse and you have to be happy.

I could have gotten a 4runner BUT i already have 2 suvs and decent ones, so i wanted to change it up a little but but not like going to the stang. I can sometimes need a pickup and always use 4x4 and so with toyota reliability/reputation and a real lifetime warranty on the powertrain, i decided to buy a taco. There are some things I don't like about it but there are things i love about it and the cons are far outnumbered by the pros for me.

The way my 2019 Tacoma is going I’d be surprised it’s still circulating in 10 years.

Perhaps with a rebuilt engine, a new automatic transmission and half the electronics gone dead.

One thing I do know...it will still be beeping.

I am not loyal to any brand but I'll tell you one thing, look at the resale value of a two year old Ford then compare it to Toyota and you'll get your answer. No matter how much some of us who're shopping for a used Tacoma wish to have lower resale value, it is not happening, not now not in the near future. Ever since Tacoma was introduces it sold at top dollars in the used car market. Hell, my 1999 Taco with 218,000 can fetch $5k easy, what about Ford? Again, not a fan boi, but I bet you in two years those Rangers and Colorados can be had for 40%-50% of the original price, while Tacomas will continue fetch top dollars, IMO.

    I'll take that bet......
The Ranger must be a hell of a lease then....Bank has the Ranger at a 62% residual (vs Tacoma's 67%) After three years and 36K A Far cry from 50% after two years..Where do you guys get this stuff? If I can buy a $45K Lariat in two years for $22500, I'll take all the trucks for sale at that price.

Even the discontinued Rangers are bringing a good buck
    https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...=true&modelChanged=false&filtersModified=true

Tacoma is so far behind. No remote locking tailgate, no gas struts on the hood, Shallow bed, Still using drum brakes, No Android Auto Entunes blows Unable to delete Moon roof on higher packages. LEDS all around. 8" Screen plus two 4" LCD screens. More POWAH, better10 speed transmission, Better towing and more cargo weight, 10 way power seats for drive AND passenger. Steel bed needs no "stiffener" not to crack ........Rear springs, converter and frame problems and on and on......

OH and 45,000 posts in a $700 OV Tuner thread because the drivetrain is awful, one must spend $700 and risk a warranty issue just to get a few more ponies and smoother drive train....., Then there are the Rear end issues......Weak engine Confused transmission. whining and whirring noises......No dealer help at all..

Yeah, fanbois will buy all the Tacomas they make. Good for Toyota, No more money from me for mediocracy...I will have another look when Toyota again redesigns the Tacoma with a proper drive train and UP TO DATE tech.

got my 06 trd off road 6MT with 93k miles for $9500. had to do $3k worth of things but had the previous owner get them done at the dealer before i purchased it for the listed $9500.

im happy  (especially looking at those who bought trucks with 50k miles for over $20k...)

That's what FORS (Focus RS) fan bois said about Golf R when Focus RS came out, "outdated tech, less HP, softer AWD". Where is the RS now? In the gutter for it's shitty engine, crappy AWD and everything in between. Want to know why? Because Ford builds first then designs. But you're on! We meet here 2 years from now and revisit resale values of Tacoma and Ranger, and if I loose I'll send you a case of your favorite beer, if you loose (although I won't hold you to it), you can do the same IF you'd like, but I will hold my end of the bargain

One year later. According to KBB Ranger depreciated by almost $15k (30%). One more year to go ;)

had my 17 OR for 3 years now. I have mixed feelings about the truck. Gas mileage has been excellent but driving a n the city or suburbs has been a dog. I am waiting on the new tundra which is suppose to be hybrid. I also like those z71 Chevy Silverados but then again they are gas guzzlers as well. I will just wait and see what the market has to offer

Meh just keep it. It’s a truck . If you need something fast get something else as well. I’ve never once let a trucks performance encourage me to purchase it .

WELL OBVIOUSLY I own a Tacoma . I love it and won’t get rid of it but Toyota trucks have always been slow till the tundra. Seriously who is trying to haul ass in a truck?

I recently traded in my Taco for a Tundra, needed something that would fit more than 2 people more comfortably, especially with gear and a dog on top of it. The amount of cabin space is something else, so far we are pretty happy with it. But I will always miss my Tacoma :(

I work at ford... every single ranger I’ve sold has come back from things like broken driver seat motor to blown engines. Wouldn’t touch a new ranger until ford gets their heads out their asses. They’ve been building trucks forever and can’t make a decent one to save their lives.
