Well, I don't want to go down the trim level too far. I like the way the OR looks. That's as far down as I'd go.

If you want all the upgrades without any plans to change anything, I would say get the Pro, then.

Considering it now for a tundra. Third kid and it seems like we tow a lot more then we ever did. Use to be once in awhile now we do a rv and work remotely. Thinking it
Might be better and more space with a third in the way. That said I’m not sure since we inky tow 3500 trailer and the Tacoma is so much fun off-road.

See I'm debating Tundra too! But Taco for a second vehicle isn't a bad call!

It’s not, but with it being MT I’m the only one driving it and I don’t know that I care to have two trucks as long as both have 4x4. Extra space would be a plus and if we have a third then might just be the way to go but hauling around I would think the tundra would be a better call. It’s being debated now and my wife being that tundra would be a AT is on board for the change, which is main reason I’m not. That and I just got her the way I want it and all the lights running with the new bumper.

    I've owned: 1990 bronco2, 2000 ranger 4x4, 2011 mazdaspeed3, 2005 tacoma prerunner, 2003 rav4, 2005 f150 4x4, 2019 fiesta st, and now a 2020 tacoma sr5 4x4.

I love hot hatches... BUT trucks, tacoma in particular are way more comfortable, practical, and fun for me. I just traded in my 2019 fiesta st two weeks ago for my tacoma, and I don't regret it one bit. If I don't look at my vehicle while I'm walking away from it, I'm in the wrong vehicle, and I can't stop looking at my tacoma. Aside from it not being the green pro model, it is my dream truck. Does everything I need, and doesn't have sh*t i don't want. I have a habit of trading in vehicles fairly often, the longest one I kept was the mazdaspeed3 and that was only for 4 years and it was fully bolted & tuned. I traded that for the '05 tacoma prerunner, and I loved that truck but it got totalled. Otherwise, I'd probably still be driving that.

Edit: Also my girlfriend has a 2014 GTI that I have driven frequently... and I am no longer a fan of GTI's. I've also ridden in my buddies 2019 Golf R, and its nice.. but I don't care for them.

If that’s your plan, to use it as a truck, I’d say look at getting the AC or DCLB so you have the six foot bed. If you go AC, I think the Sport can be bought with a manual. In the double cab with the six footer, you’re stuck with auto trans regardless of trim level.

I tow a lot more than I did when I bought my Tacoma so I had been debating a full size. My Toyota dealership had 2 Tacomas on the lot last week so they made me an offer on my 17 OR that I could not refuse & put me in a 2020 Tundra on the crazy August incentive they were running. Hasn't been a week yet but I'm loving it. Ask me again after I buy a few tanks of gas hahaha

Buy what makes you happy, I bought an SR trying to save money and end up trading it for an Off-road a month later. Thankfully they were desperate for inventory so I didn’t take too much of a hit.

I went from an auto 4 cylinder to a V6 manual and loving it more than my 2nd gen 4.0

I traded in my GTI for my TRD OR...there are days I certainly miss my GTI. But overwhelmingly I'm pleased with my Taco. If I go to trade it in for anything, it's going to be AWD and more economical for sure though; the days of thinking I *need* to be able to off road (even though I've never done it before in my life) are in my past. My parents survived winter storms with safe driving and winter tires; I should be able to do the same.

I love my Taco will be selling it privately when my Dual Motor Cybertruck arrives in 2022. I want to get into a full size pickup and decided to wait for a BEV with a proven drivetrain. I am purposely keeping the miles low to help maximize the selling price. I may post it for sale on this forum in a couple of years so it goes to a Toyota Tacoma enthusiast!

Mind if I ask what repairs your 4runner was gonna need? I actually traded my taco for an '07 V8 with 132k miles a few months ago, tryna plan ahead

It was the dreaded timing belt. That 4.7 is a beast of a motor, it’s only downfall is the timing belt. I made it 200k miles on the original one and I started noticing a miss. I think Toyota calls for a timing belt on those at ~100k, so I knew this was most likely the problem and that I would need to change it out anyway. I do most of my own basic maintenance, but I didn’t want to screw anything up on the timing belt, so I took it to my buddy’s shop. He confirmed it was the timing belt, add in a few other repairs I needed and it was gonna be about $3300, which is more than what one dealer offered me for it on trade in.

Had a couple friends interested in buying it knowing it needed the timing belt, but nothing happened with that so we just decided to trade it.

Check to see if the timing belt has been done on yours. Other than that, basic maintenance was the only thing I ever had to do on that motor. I think that generation 4Runner is one of Toyota’s best vehicles, so enjoy it!

This thread has been successfully given CPR. I find when I’m bored with a vehicle the best thing to do is buy a second and keep the first!

Ironically, take a look at the Ridgeline. Them and the Passport (which I owned between my current and last Taco and is now being driven by my mom lol) are actually pretty damn capable for an AWD vehicle. Honestly if I were to give up my Tacoma for something right now, it'd probably be another Passport, Pilot or Ridgeline. Blasphemy, I know. I just hope Tacoma World doesn't excommunicate me for saying that lmao.

Honestly? This is my second 3rd gen and 3rd Tacoma overall. My 2019 was pretty good over all, especially when I got the TSB to improve the shift points. My 2022 has thus far been pretty decent but between 2019 and 2022 I felt like the tranny behavior got worse and it prompted me to go for a tune. Since then the truck is perfectly serviceable even if it does get fairly terrible MPG lol. As far as reliability, I can't say one way or the other...so far in 8 months of ownership it's been pretty good, but I've only got 5500 miles on her. I guess time will tell :fingerscrossed:
