Did you trade your Tacoma in? Do you regret it?

Just traded in my United Motorsport tuned 2018 S3 for a 2019 Taco TRDOR. I was so conflicted when I signed the papers, but I just bought a motorcycle and kinda need the utility. Plus the payments on the Taco are easier on the wallet.

Youll regret not being able to haul the dirtbike amd camping and dog in one vehicle. I know i would. Couldnt get rid of my truck now unless it was for another truck. Even though i have thought about using my trailer with the car, i remember the car wouldnt be able to get offroad to certain areas without scraping everywhere.

Honestly id suggest getting a fun car on the side. Best decision i made. I have something "quick" with power to DD and then use the truck for offroad activites/hauling.

    Agreed
    Agree on the camping stuff
Track cars are expensive too if you mod them..

I was actually in the opposite situation. Bought a 2016 Golf R MT, a few years later we got a furball that grew into a 75lb hairy, restless doodle, lol. No way I was gonna let him ride in my R, so we bought a Tacoma. Originally I was planning to replace the R with the Tacoma and make it my daily, but I quickly realized that I won't be happy without something that'll satisfy my soul every now and then, so I kept the R. Even though my Taco is all Pro-ed out (shocks, wheels, grill, etc...) but in the performance department it's no match nor substitute for a tastefully modded pocket rocket Golf R that can elevate your mood from 1 to 10 in under 5 seconds :D

Golf R is such a fun and sporty car. I love it's handling and cornering and power.

@AM7Jeremy No regrets? Interesting. I've read more from people who regret trading in their 2nd gen for a 3rd gen. Main complaints have been the weird automatic transmission and mpgs not being as advertised. You haven't experienced thaat?

Went from a 2nd gen to my 3rd. Don’t miss the 2nd gen one bit honestly. Engine and trans combo in the 3rd is great imo. Has plenty of power and I actually like it better then the 2nd gen comb.

Wife went for a rav4 to the T4R. Also no regrets. We take that thing everywhere. The tech may be dated but we like how simple the interior is. Build quality is superior to any 3rd. Plenty of room for our 2 dogs and friends and family when they come along.

@Bowhuntercoop You're a better man than me The only way I would see myself trading in my 2015 with 51k miles is if the 2020 felt slightly better during a test drive than the other 3rd gens Ive driven or if I know going in that I will pay the $2--3k for a re-gear job immediately after I leave the lot. Heck, maybe even re-gear AND Ovtune would be essential. The thing people dont understand is that Toyota and all manufacturers are in a race to quickly improve MPGs not improve transmission and motor performance. They basically thew in a hybrid motor into this nee Tacoma. I'll wait and see if the 2020 feels any different.

My 3rd gen get way better mileage then my 2nd gen ever did. Pulls my boat with ease. These engines like higher rpms, don’t be afraid to spin em. I got an insane amount for my 2nd gen. If it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t have upgraded, I was perfectly happy with my 2nd gen. Now, a year later with the 3rd I won’t even go back.

I have none of the issues guys bitch about here at all. Trucks shifts great, engine has plenty of power and I rarely use ect. Gets amazing mileage, and build quality is on par or better then any 2nd gen. I hope the next model is even better then the current offering. They hit a home rub in my eyes when it comes to 3rd gens. Maybe I got lucky but mine ain’t going anywhere for a long time.

For a mid size truck I still think they are the best ones on the market.

I used to have a 13 4x4 dcsb . I had the same itch as you and traded in for a 15 limited wrx . In the long run the novelty wore off and even though I liked the wrx I really wish I had the best of both worlds .
I think I'm good now for a while . Truth is I need a truck . So I've decided to keep the Tacoma moving forward . I really feel like it's the perfect truck for me and my family . Really liking the R .

That is the route I went with . Picked up a near perfect (couple rock chips) R for 27k with 34k mi. to commute in now that I'm knocking on 90k mi. in the family truckster.

Not a third gen Tacoma, but I did trade my second gen in for a Subaru Forester 6MT back in 2014. The Forester was a great car, and did pretty well off-road, but I missed the solid ride quality of a truck, as well as low-range. Ended up trading her in just last weekend for a 3rd gen taco. Loving the new truck!

I did the two vehicles thing people are suggesting for about 10 years, and it was a complete pain in the ass. Extra insurance payments, parking, storage etc, double the maintenance costs. At the end of it all I just felt like a car-tard.. retardedly bouncing between the two vehicles looking for a thrill one day and practicality the next.

I bought my tacoma.... fuck this thing is under powered.

Next solution, a more powerful truck. Cars just don't work for me. I need something rugged that can haul and has 4wd.

I have a a friend with a tune only ecoboost F150 that runs mid 12's, tows a 28ft trailer and can go offroad and to and from work while hauling his family around.

Had a taco, now have a tundra. I want to like the taco but There are so many things I hate.
Size and fuel economy are the only downfall of the tundra. They do everything else better than a tacoma.

I guess i dont find those issues you do. Yeah i pay two insurance payments but i happen to get better gas mileage too. So its wash. I dont live in an apartment so theres no parking issues, nor is it really double the maintenance. You arent driving both at the same time requiring the maintenance to happen at the same time. It gets offset.

But i have 2 bikes also so i really split maintenance up even longer. Honestly my gto could probably haul anything i wanted on a trailer if i bought a hitch. More power than the tacoma ever had.

The mustang tows a 28ft trailer?
