Do what you can to legally earn money while in school and continue with the commitment to sports and academics. Academics will pay off the most, looking down the road, but working younger also helps develop that sense of responsibility, and the commitment and discipline learned from sports is also transferrable. When I was your age, I was a quitter and decided to enlist in the Navy to try to grow up, after I quit high school twice. It worked for me, but made things a lot more difficult without the diploma. I wish I had stuck it out and really applied myself then. Hindsight is always so clear!
Work part time, if you can find something you like doing....just to pay for upkeep and maintenance of the truck. Hit the books and work hard at being the best you can be, in academics and sports. By doing that, you will make your mom proud of you...and you will feel good about yourself.
    Best of luck!

I started working when I was 15 at Food World. I played Football, Baseball and Soccer. I worked at the mall when I was 16, then a gas station till I graduated, then to the army, school and bigger and better things. It's possible..you just have to manage your time appropriately.

Hope it all works out! Work is good for your character and makes you appreciate things more!

I got a summer job shoveling gravel for a contractor at 14, and started washing dishes at 15. Worked washing dishes all thru high school and pumped gasoline during the summer between high school and college. Quit college and went to work full time at 18. Worked steady for the next 36 years, until the plant closed down, Now, I'm back in college full time.

it all depends on what you value more. either playing sports, or working to get money for mods.

I started working when I was 12, and no, not in a sweat shop. Being in a restaurant family things like that are very common. It definitely taught me a lot about life. I'm 26, own my own home (not so good these days), and just opened my own business so hard work does pay off.

In other words. Get a damn job! HA!

Been working since I was 15, way back in '81. Couldn't get my license until I had the money up front to pay for driver's ed, my license and my 1st year's insurance. Taught me how to set a goal and to save my money. Worked a Burger King, cutting lawns, grocery store, K-mart, shoveling snow, what ever it took. I still had time for sports, girls, parties, good grades and some street racing. LOL

Had a lot of fun during my teen years.

Just have to set your priorities and budget your time. Good Luck !!

Im 16 and a half(today) and i got my truck less than 2 months before my bday. I had to make the $4500 downpayment. I saved all that from 5th grade on thru chores, christmas, birthday etc. And now i make my monthly payments $383.17. I now work at Platos Closet! Im the only dude and its nicee. But no im not gay, my aunt and uncle own a few stores. I kinda like knowing that my paychecks are going to MY truck. It feels great that it will be all mine in a few years. I'd rather know that my money is going to something that will be there in 5+ years and can get me thur Alabama(college) and be reliable. I plan on keeping it til 200k miles and im just on 31k now. Yes, working is worth it. School is all about learning how to work/deal with people.

Thanks for the motivation guys. I talked to a friends dad who owns a diary he said he'll give me a call

As for sports I've been receiving letters but most of them from division 3 schools. I dont really see my self playing football in college. I am going to study to be a nurse (murse).

I started working in 8th grade. So I was 13 years old. It was a weekend job, which carried into a summer job. I was playing 2 sports in high school as well, but I like money and nice things so I had to work. Nothing was ever given to me. My parents actually did not wanted me to work but I insisted. I also was able to keep up with school work all A and B. I don't want a cookie or anything but I thing that little work goes a long way. It does teaches you a lot.

I've had a job since I was 14 (now 20). It's all about priorities and what you really want/need. I worked as a snowboard instructor from age 14-16 so that I could snowboard for free, then I would work during the summer for gas money and whatever else I wanted...just figure out what you want and think of a way to get it (legally hopefully :)).

I played hockey 4-6 days a week and everyday that I didn't have hockey i worked (around my schooling schedule of course and before hockey on weekends) I would say it is a good character builder, but it would be hard if the two sports over lapped... I just played hockey year around as thats apparently all us canucks do up here

I also found time to do other sports such and downhill mountain bike, snowboard and women... lol maybe the last one was more of a hobbie then a sport?

the only thing that has changed is I play hockey less work more and have to work slightly harder to maintain A's in University

My answer is yes you can, and yes you should... but Once you mod your first vehical you cant be stopped...

    Consider your self warned lol

I did sports in highschool as well. I had a summer job between junior and senior year, and I might have also had one between sophomore and junior year. Unless it's necessary, i would nut suggest someone getting a job during high school. Study habits are bad enough, no need to have work getting in the way.
