21 truck, no accidents, 12,500 trouble free miles.
Was driving about 75 and there was significant right banked turn, that made me lean into the drivers side door by resting my elbow on the door…. And it went pop…. o_O

Thankfully the secondary latch caught it, then bunch of annoying beeping crap came on and spooked the wife .
Was this a fluke or has it happened to anyone else ? First “issue” I ever had with the truck in ~13k miles.
And yes it was closed and I have been driving for 100 miles prior it coming loose.

I honestly don’t believe that it was closed entirely since there’s no way the door would open otherwise if closed properly. Although you say you did close it, I’m still going with the possibility that you didn’t. I wasn’t there so it’s only speculation. But I’ve never heard of any vehicle having a door issue in my life.

I hit a pothole one day and my hood popped and caught on the safety latch but never any doors.

There was no warning from vehicle or additional wind noise which would suggest it was open. How else am I to tell if it’s closed or open?!
Curious minds would like to know.

This is the first vehicle out of the 30+ I owned and 1M + plus miles that this happened to.

I was putting a bit of pressure on the door panel due to the higher speed turn as noted. It sure did make my butt pucker. It made quite a loud “pop” noise when it happened.

Thankfully that was just a one time thing a few years ago. Way back when l had my first car the hood blew up against the windshield as l was going across a bridge, wasn't very fun driving to the other side.

Super similar, and I’m expecting the dealership to be just as clueless. This only happened once under really specific circumstances. So I’m sure they “won’t be able to reproduce the problem”.

This is TW, there are only two possible answers for how that happened:
    1. Normal.
    2. You’re an idiot and did something wrong.

jk. You should test it to make sure the latch is functioning properly. Maybe gently close it but not to where you hear it click, see if the warning lights out and then try pushing it open. if it opens perhaps you didn’t have the door fully latched.
Then firmly shut the door, and try to push it open. If it opens then somethings wrong with the latching mechanism.

That happened to me in my ‘86 300ZX on my way to the paint shop. That was a very bad day plus the cracked windshield. :bananadead:

No never happened - but once as a child as a passenger I wondered if the car door would open
for me while driving 70 MPH - found out it did and got smacked by my mother for doing it LOL

I wonder if the door-not-shut sensor wasn't working.

Yes the door handle was not fully shut and it swung open on my wifes side.

It's actually a big issue on some tundra models.

You know, now that you mention it, it happened to me once on my Tacoma driver side. I leaned on the door at a stop light and the door came open. Didnt think of it as a big deal just closed it firmly. I obviously didn’t have it closed securely. Not happened since. I’ve been driving 45 years and hey that happens sometimes.

Update: Being an engineer of course I just had to test this before I drove to the store. With all windows closed, if you close the door slow to moderately fast, the door closing caused a pressure inside the truck which acts against the door and sometimes the door isn’t fully latched, you can wiggle it open a little as it hits the secondary latch. The door open alert is on.
With windows open a little the same closing force easily fully latched the door.

This is really nothing new, I think many know that a door is harder to close and latch with windows up. Bottom line, close the door firmly and check.

    Fun stuff lol.

Question for the group, when all other doors are closed, is the last door fairly difficult to shut, and requires a near slam? My other vehicles are a bit easier to close fully.

The door latch is only cable operated, it’s possible you put just enough pressure in just the right spot to manipulate the cable enough to pop open the door.

Yes. See my update above. You don’t have to slam it though just a fast firm close.
