Die-Cast Tacomas?

Going to strip the paint tomorrow and do the body work
I'll be going for a look similar to this one

 

How the heck are you guys building the roofs on the Lifeguard models? I tried making a thin layer of green stuff epoxy but couldn't get it smooth, it kept flexing and cracking.

Update on the mega tacorunner
Stripped all the paint and worked on the sides and primed , haven't done the roof yet
Here's a mock up , will have more lift tho and all black wheels

Clear shipping tape.. I did the roof, back window and bed cover in one epoxy pass.. let it sit for 2 days to get hard otherwise it turns into a mess..

 

So... you used clear shipping tape as the base, then brushed epoxy over it- but how did you get it smooth? Could you sand it after the epoxy dried? What did you use?

I'm perplexed. I've been building scale models a LONG time and can't think of what I'd use...

It drys smooth buy I finish it off with bondo..a lil sanding and some primer . Looks like they came out of the box.

 

Progress , it'll have more lift once I get everything set up
Probably gonna switch out the tires for rubber ones

Just picked up some rubber tires for the mega tacorunner

 

Wheels and axles done , not done yet , tube bumper up front and a few other stuff
