My wife gave me a Hot Wheels Tacoma when I bought my PreRunner as a joke. Now it's become something of an obsession LOL. I use to build scale models of cars, armored vehicles and aircraft. I was pretty good at it too. This thread has given me the idea of upgrading a HotWheel or Matchbox Tacoma. I'll see how it turns out...

Some stock looking ones without absurd lifts and wheels would be nice

One of my early diecast customs was the Matchbox 2nd gen Toyota Tacoma. I've since gotten better at detailing, so I can't wait for the weather to get better so I can do another 2nd gen, as well as the new 3rd gen.

Agreed. I've got a few more that I want to do to look more civilian. Since these all are lifeguard versions with the rack, I have to fill in the back of the roof with hobby putty and sand before paint and details. Hopefully this spring I'll get it done.

Yep, I prefer a more stock look anyway. Probably just try to take it apart and work on stripping off the paint, repainting and maybe tint the Windows. Never tried it before so I'm not sure what to expect.

Steve...do you have experience building scale models? Sounds like it. I've got two plastic model kits in the closet waiting to be built. One is a 4 Door SF Tacoma and the other is a Hi Lux.

Not since I was a kid and I wasn't the best at it. My friend Danielle still builds model kits and she and I are going tackle one this spring since I've started customizing Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars for the last year and a half.
