Posting here so I have it for documentation later if needed but also for your thoughts and opinions.

I'm the guy that has been crabbing to Toyota that a bone stock 23 should be getting better than 13 to 16 MPG. Something is off. Toyota won't even consider looking at it. Camelback Toyota said they would look at it. Then disconnected my dash cam and told me "well there aren't any codes."

Then today I start it up, drive off and make it 1 mile from the house. Engine shudders and dies in traffic and while moving (mild acceleration ad at about 14 to 20 mph). I stop in a busy street. Throw on the hazards, put it in park, restart. The truck shudders but goes into drive and is in limp mode. Couldn't do more than 18mph. The infotainment screen caught a message about the engine and or transmission harness.

I parked it at home and took the wife's car to make my appointments. When I got home, I went on line to get a service appointment lined up. None of the dealerships near me (N. Phoenix) can get me in until 2025. Hoping when Bell Road Toyota gets in on Monday they call me and tell me they can see me sooner.

    ADDING FINAL TOYOTA DIAGNOSIS:
ADDING FINAL YOTA PROS (Independent) DIAGNOSIS:
    CONCLUSION:
After discovering the voltage drop on the Fuel Injection System, Yota Pros honed in on driving the vehicle with a scan tool. Scan tool indicated a consistent misfire on #2 Cyl. Yota Pros replaced both Fuel Injectors on #2 and since then my MPG has gone from the 13MPG/15MPG range back up to the 19MPG to 22MPG range and the truck no longer dies in traffic. Root Cause - Defective Fuel Injector from the Factory. Toyota failed to acknowledge my MPG issues since early on (around 5,000 miles) and failed 3 for 3 times with an escalation to corporate to diagnose the issue - blaming the customer instead.

Limp mode could be anything, of course.
Subbed out of curiosity for outcome.
    Good luck with it, brother.

I get 15-16mpg in the Tacoma and my wife gets just about 17-18 in the 5th gen Runner. Stock and stock.
I don't like it, but outside of buying two new vehicles, it is what it is for us.

Subbed as well. I am curious why you both are getting such poor mileage. I have a '23 SR5 with the AT and 3.5L, and I average about 22-23 mpg all-around. Hell, I got 14 mpg pulling a 3500 lb trailer up from Mass. OP, keep us posted, as I am very interested in what you find out....hopefully it's not a big deal.

    Subbed for curiosity.

MPGs are a little alarming for a stock truck. My 20 OR 4x4 on E load 33s gets 15-18.

I concur with the 20+ MPG folks, I get it all the time.
I wonder if you got something munching on wires.

27 MPG was a bit much, but I was doing 70MPH on the highway and achieved it.

I bought my 2017 from Bell Road Toyota in December 2016. Curious to see what the conclusion is.

I can squeeze 26-28 on the freeway if I'm careful, but I can't do it in normal driving around town.

Average around 18-19 stock other than Softopper. I think I got better mileage with my bed cover mx4 or something.

Oh I concur and I'd be hard pressed to match that again, but still, whilst hitting 70mph it ain't bad.
Around town is lousy for sure but I've seen 24+ several times over time.

Whatever the numbers are I'm not too concerned I don't work anymore and mostly tool around a few
blocks to pick up food and whatnot. Occasional trip to my favorite store ( Home Depot ) or driving slow
on rural roads looking for rattlers or whatnot.

Towing even a small 1000 pound camper kills it for sure.

I would be on the phone first thing Monday morning with Toyota corporate. They should be sending a tow truck to drop that thing off at a local dealer of your choosing. 2025 is unacceptable.

Sounds like you got a lemon. It happens. This is why warranties and, worst case scenario, lemon laws exist.

    Subbing.

I get 16-18mpg on mine with 2” lift and 33” e rated tires and I get anywhere from 23-26mpg on the highway. It’ll probably drop a bit now that I’ve added armor and rock sliders, but still.

At this point I'm just hopeful they can call me on Monday and get me in sooner than January. Truck is parked until then.

The shudder felt kinda like a mis-fire but also could be transmission.

Tks for all of the encouragement guys! We'll get to the bottom of this.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I also get “poor” gas mileage compared to many folks here. I routinely get 16-17 MPG. 70 mph on highway when I go there, mostly stock truck besides C-Load 265/70R17 A/T tires. EPA city estimate is 17 MPG, so I’m not terribly concerned.

I do get the same MPG as you when towing though.

Well that sucks big time. Hopefully its something simple like poor gas or a loose/disconnected wire or hose. The wait time for an appointment is brutal though. What if this was your only vehicle and you had to have it to make an income.
