Yeah, you're not the only one.

    Smart move!

I haven't quite figured it out, but I think the Wife's Forester does a check on the turbo during a cold start. It does a nice spool up that I can hear upstairs. The thing is spooling like a diesel just off of idle. Too bad that it is boring to drive. I kept telling her to get a WRX.

If there was a turbo 4 / MT option in the Taco, that is what I would have picked.

Yeah, but she'd kill me. The stock tune is pretty good, esp in the top mode. What I really want is an exhaust on it. That'd definitely mean death though.

I have a tough time deciding if I like the subbie motor more than our old saab's. The CVT just ruins it though and an exhaust would be weird with it.

There's a local tuner shop that mostly deals with civics etc. Well they decided to buy a Jeep for the shop and call it nextmod offroad. I asked them if they can assist with winch tensioning and had no clue what that was yet their Jeep has a winch lol .

It's all a bunch of Asians too that when they're at the tracks which I used to go to for the same events would get all upset when they got dirty from the grass lol.

And said on their Facebook the furthest off road that Jeep has ever been is the grass at the track where everyone parks lol.

And it's the same here, the amount of jeeps I see that have winches and are just mall crawlers. Some of them I've booked don't even have cables hooked up. They just buy it as a fashion accessory

    A real original Fiat 500 probably didn't get 45mpg.
    I checked they get about 35mpg (http://www.fuelly.com/car/fiat/500/1970).

I havent gone thru the thread, but I just had a similar experience.

Shopping Tacoma and 4runner at Vancover Toyota and Kirkland Toyota. Trying to haggle the finance manager to agree on my terms. I did have a chat with him on the upcoming 4runner.

Diesel 4runner should be here. Maybe small displacement straight 4 + turbo (Unconfirmed).

From the TGNA platform, you wont expect it to hit the ground before the 300 Series landcruiser.

    300 series LC > Tundra> Sequoia> 4runner > Tacoma (refresh)

Even if they do it's too little, too late. Lots of guys with 3/4 and 1 ton trucks with diesel engines are going back to gas. The high cost of the engines, fuel, DEF, complex, unreliable engines, regulations, and the poor fuel mileage of current diesel vehicles just isn't worth it anymore to a lot of them. At least with the big trucks the added weight of the heavy diesel engines is cutting into payload to the point that there isn't that much payload advantage over a 1/2 ton gas engine. The diesels pull trailers over mountains faster, but I'm hearing lots of guys say they'll just drive slower, save money, and have a more reliable truck.

If Toyota had done this years ago when diesel was 1/2 the cost of gas, and actually got better fuel mileage it would have been a good idea.

......So is the Cummins. The motors are fine, the emissions systems are not. They’re getting better, but they can still be a pita.

Most of the bugaboos about modern diesel emissions was borne when they were running heavy EGR and no def. That period of time was over in 2012 for all major manufacturers.

You mean all the emissions shit is screwing with the reliability of the engines, correct?

The 6.0L PowerStroke is a prime example of this!

    Yes.

It’s gotten better. The 6.0 is a perfect example. It was actually a good engine but the emissions made it a nightmare. You can buy one used and bulletproof it and have a reliable setup.

I’ve put a lot of hard miles on modern diesels, and would not buy anything else to tow with.

The new tier of diesels will be doing away with EGR and going heavier on a less complex scr.

Not reading this thread, but the last thing anybody wants in a 4Runner is a diesel.

    It doesn’t need reinvigorating, either.

Now I’m going to forget this ever happened.
