    Not opposed at all. Just pointing out that some enhancements need to be made to be a true truck. Obviously what works (questionable) for a Prius won't work for a Tacoma.

    ya here's my electric off road truck, you know since the current electronics can't hold up to water and mud well over time, why not add more stupidity:confused:

    i agree this is the future but i just don't think the technology is proven enough for vehicles that venture far off the beaten path yet. also one thing i've come across is ppl with hybrids telling me the gas mileage is only good if they drive extremely conservatively. most truck owners want power, and thus use it, which kills the mileage. i think this will change in time or perhaps i'm not up to speed anymore because this isn't something i'm looking for in a truck. diesel sure, but electric - not yet! maybe stupid at 2 am was a poor choice of words by me. not ready for this is a better way to put it, until the technology has proven itself to be highly reliable in various scenarios. yes the tacoma sure does have more ground clearance than a prius!

    good point. i imagine the percentage is very very low, and i don't count the ppl who go down a dirt road through a 4 inch puddle as off roading. trucks are certainly leaning away from off road use. they are all getting big and low for street comfort and efficiency.

    we all have different ideas of what a truck should be, i always think off road dependability. and electric scares me at this point.

    A bigger problem is water crossings and flash floods, which happen all the time in the south.

    Why not a true diesel electric where the electric motor drives the vehicle at all times and the diesel motor runs to provide the electricity? Electric motors are capable of producing much more torque than an internal combustion engine and produce max torque at any rpm, they have no power band. Each wheel could be driven independently by its own motor and not have to have a transmission, transfer case, or driveshafts.

    street truck i agree totally, bush truck not sold yet til i see submersible power packs, they will eventually truly seal this stuff up and have them running under water! however that said i've been thinking and avoid water when possible, but we all know it's not always avoidable getting to our favourite fishing/camping/wheeling spots.

    Toyota does not seem interested in spending anything on truck R&D. Brand new Tundra, same old engines & lousy economy.


    The new F150 will be fairly revolutionary when it comes out. Tons of aluminum, much lower weight, and with a V6 will hit 30mpg. Once this hits the streets, I'm not sure what Toyota's value proposition is for their trucks anymore. Nobody will buy a Tundra, and I'm not sure who would buy a Taco either when you can have a full-size V6 that beats the crap out of the fuel economy of even the lowliest of 4 cyl tacos.
