    Yes. It's a resonance....

Wait a sec.....maybe the increased resonance from the hypothetical diesel will cancel out the existed resonance from the rear end...thereby resulting in complete abatement of the howl......???

I'm sorry, I can't hear you. The silence is deafening.

Well, then I guess the only conclusion you can draw is that a Ram with a Cummins is a piece of shit. I would recommend you never buy one.

The silence you are hearing is the hum of the hypothetical diesel engine in the Tacoma....

yeah I guess his consolation prize is that he'll never have to change a glow plug nor a spark plug because of the engineering marvel that the Cummins diesel engine is

Ask some of the Colorado guys about their regen experiences and limp mode. It seems to be happening a lot more than some thought.

Now you're getting it. PM me your address and I'll send you a TDR hat....or a big Cummins sticker for the rear window of your Tacoma.

AKA, 2011 was still a dark year for the diesel powered Rams. Very dark. The lack off spark/glow plugs was perhaps the only highpoint.

Yes, the LB7s were famous for it..problem persisted in some form or another until the LBZ was introduced in 2006. 6 model years of bad injectors. So bad that the replacements also failed. GM famously left thousands upon thousands of owners with a big bill.

The VM Motori that has the Duramax badge slapped on it is certainly having it's share of problems.

No worries there I don't really have the need for a dumptruck. It's not really a piece of shit, I just don't think any diesel should be put on an altar. Although our bucket truck at work is a 5500 ram with the 6.4 and that thing is numb as hell, so the diesel does have a place I guess.

Right, it’s just another tool in the toolbox. A powerwagon owner might consider his or her truck a work truck/tool, regarding it the same way they look at their backhoe. It’s not a toy. Nothing special about it, it’s configured to do a certain thing. My truck is not that truck, for example. It’s a toy. For fun and utility (speaking for myself) and you use the right tool for the job and the right toy for the play. I have no use for a diesel toy, just like odds are a farmer wouldn’t see the merit in my tacoma. However, there are still folks out there who own power wagons, and the only thing they haul are street hockey nets. I adore making fun of those people, but at the same time I have to remember that a small portion of the street hockey net people actually just plain like the design and engineering of that particular truck. It’s like their Ferrari. It’s their interest and passion. They might not necessarily be victims of the “I have the biggest” disease, but actually honestly like the truck. I can’t fuck with those people. I’m ok with that, because there are still plenty of scumbags to scoff at.

Which is kinda opposite in what a Tacoma is. Very cheap to maintain. Which is why some of us are scratching our heads wondering why people would want to add more ammo to Murphy’s law, when the Toyota pickup traditionally was to eliminate Murphy’s law altogether.

A lot of people are moving further and further from where they work...which = longer commutes. A lot of people live lifestyles that necessitate a truck...but trucks generally are terrible when it comes to mpg - 15-18 or so being about the norm.

Therefore, I would surmise a lot of people own a truck AND a small commuter car....and maybe its just me, but I personally would love to sell both and just own one truck that gets decent (30-35) mpg...and use a truck for my commute and lifestyle.

The 1/2 ton offerings with diesels are close...the Ram Ecodiesel will get just about 30 when tuned and driven conservatively. The attraction of a Tacoma diesel to me would be the prospect of 35 mpg in a truck. A small 4 cylinder diesel in a light truck like a Tacoma should easily attain 35 mpg when driven conservatively.

As for everyone saying they dont understand the allure of a small diesel, all I can say is you probably haven't done a long commute (60+ miles each way) for any period of time in both a gas and diesel vehicle. I find my TDI significantly more enjoyable and comfortable on my commute...it cruises at 55-65 at a much lower RPM than gas vehicles, and when you need to accelerate up from that speed to say 70-75 it does so with ease...no need to drop a gear or two, it just pushes through.

Small diesels in light vehicles are very enjoyable, they cruise at lower RPMs and the transmission doesnt need to constantly shift to make up for the lack of torque in a gas engine. Not everyone who wants a diesel likes to "roll coal"...the characteristics of diesels are very different than gas engines and really lend themselves to long highway drives/commutes in my opinion.

For all the down sides everyone points out about diesels very few people mentioned the drastically longer average life of diesel engines...gas engines average 200,000 miles while diesels average 500,000. Might not seem like a big deal but when you're driving 30,000 miles a year that is a big selling point.
