They are right there at it. Some of the stuff they are building now makes my 650/900 not seem to hot.

I think a diesel Tacoma would be novel. I wouldn’t want one though, not with the standards we have here. And I wouldn’t want to have an engine that ran on a fuel that depended on FI. How does the end user regen the DPF? I don’t read about passenger vehicles or domestic diesel pickups, it’s just not in my interest, but I wonder these things. The DPF will need a regen. It’ll need a periodic crystal sublimation done on it I assume. Are any of these services push button? Or does one need to take it to the dealer for these things?
    FEA86BB7-BBC6-40FD-9834-7DAEB60522A4.jpg
DEF crystallization wreaks havoc on any system that uses it. If the operating conditions aren’t fuckin perfect, it manages to creep around and find its way into everything and bugger it up with crystals of doom. It does make pretty designs though when it dries. So that’s a plus at least.

Last I checked, these features like EGR and DEF are for public health, not protecting US companies, and diesels are likely to be regulated out of existence in Europe before the Us or Canada. Nevertheless, I'd like to see the choice offered to us here, especially a 4 cylinder 2.0-2.8 liter diesel to get 30+ mpg, and peak torque similar to the 3.5V6 but at 2000 rpm.

Look at my neighbour's VW Jetta TDI, that happened to produce "forty times" the NOx limit. But, forty times a microscopic number that was barely measurable in the first place. That car did a fantastic job for a lot of people and was pretty reliable. I see old TDI Jettas on the road all the time, in exactly the way I don't see old domestic product. You can't make those Jettas consume more than 6.4 l/100 km no matter how hard you drive them, and the old ones consume 5.5. The excess NOx makes SFA difference when you look at total industrial emissions.

These cars were forced by your ridiculous government to be bought back and crushed. Imagine the environmental cost of crushing all those cars, and replacing them with new ones. But that is what happened, and you were an eager swallower of their patter that it was "for the environment."

Your EPA quite simply decided to apply standards to diesels as though they were gassers, despite the fact that they are different technologies that needed to be treated differently. They did this to make sure that diesels cost $4-6000 more than domestic gassers so that manufacturers in Yurp and Asia didn't take too much of your domestic market, because modern diesels rock and they are a perfect way for manufacturers to meet and beat fleet fuel economy goals.

You would have to be very special not to see that. It has nothing to do with the environment, it is the protectionism that your country is famous for.

We won’t see any newly developed diesels in the us. Period.
My tdi passat got 45-55mpg on the regular and in the 3 years i owned it the tailpipe was cleaner than any gas car ive even owned. hands down one of the best cars ive ever had. Drove to laguna seca and back from long beach and if i remember correctly didnt even use the full tank. Pretty sure I had like 1/4 or a little more left.

Around these parts diesel cost well over $4.00 per gallon.

Diesel was $2.99/gal here north of seattle today.
Light vehicle diesels were killed in 2006 :(
Better mileage will never outwiegh the increased purchase and maintenance for most users.

RAM 2500/3500 Cummins ISB with a 6MT still only makes around 660 ft-lb. it makes more than Titan XDs 555 ft-lb of Torque.

Not good enough these days if you want the best in that class. Ford and GMC will top 1,000 ft-lb of torque by next year. Why pay similar price for half the torque?

Back in 1985, I bought a brand new toyota 4x4 pick up. I had my choice between 2 that were on the lot at the time. One was a diesel..i did not choose that one, but later wished I had. Not that the 22R engine ever let me down. In later years, I got my trailer license and was around diesels all the time and saw benefits that gas engines couldn't come close to. There is a proto type tundra with a diesel from a Hino, which is also a Toyota company, on the web. Really looks nasty. The technology is there. Is there a market for a diesel at this time? We will see.

The Cummins in the ram is de-tuned for the Manual trans, factory clutch can’t handle lots of power, with the aisin trans my 2013 ram cab and chassis is rated at 850 lb-ft.

The 2018 6.7 powerstroke is rated for 935(?) lb-ft, and the f450 crew cab 4x2 pickup is rated to tow just over 30K gooseneck, and I believe just over 7K payload.

    For your consideration:

A long term valued and trusted employee would have far more allegiance to his employer than strangers on an internet forum. If not from a sense of loyalty, honor and professionalism, just plain old self preservation. Get fired would be the least of his worries.

Anyone with insider information working for a publicly traded company has signed multiple documents acknowledging their responsibility and their understanding of SEC penalties for disclosure of information.

Large multi-national corporations don't entrust low level employees with sensitive information, knowing part numbers and suppliers isn't executive VP territory.

Saying he knows for sure Toyota is releasing a diesel Tacoma in 2019 guarantees that it's a lie.

Read this thread, and like a lot of TW threads, learned a few things.

Not sure/ don't care if Tacoma 2019 diesel is real, but until it is confirmed, it's just a rumour.

Like the quoted post above, rumors may or may not be true. This is the second time I have read this though, so it is gaining credibility...so how about it @PROseur ?

    Just kidding, of course
