The H2 vs Prius study used inaccurate numbers to represent the Prius. They also only compared the energy cost per mile for each vehicle and not equivalent pollution.

I'm locking the thread? I could care less but I'm guessing the mods might not like it.

I don't see why we can't just tow things outside the environment.

The article I read mostly talked about the production of the Prius batteries, and how they were manufactured in Canada because they couldn't in the US.

I'll see if I can find it.

    Complete witch hunt.

These massive fines that the EPA can levy on automakers is the reason all of this is going. The current mindset seems to be "if we dig and bother them enough we will find something"... it's a shame. Diesels make a lot of sense, especially for a US market with large swaths of open road.

Denver? I can't even imagine that. So the smog gets socked in during the summer?

The smog in LA was so bad you couldn't really go outside. Kinda like the pics we see now of China.

Had a '14 Golf TDI and currently a '16 BMW X3 diesel and have never smelled any diesel fumes/fuel. New diesel cars burn very cleanly. I can't speak for 18-wheelers and school buses but in a passenger application, I have never had an issue

Bitsy got it right, just a witch hunt.

With the F150 (best selling vehicle on Earth) getting a diesel and a new Ranger (which probably will too if its successful in the F150), all on top of the success of the Ecodiesels and TDIs, I think we're about to see an explosion of popularity of diesels in the coming years. This is just a knee jerk reaction (probably at some level funded by the competition) to either prevent that or slow it down. But only time will tell.

The technology exists to attain all the standards, so why should industry cut corners? Why externalize those costs to people with asthma and health issues just so the fat cats can get fatter? An electric 4x4 tacoma would awesome! Talk about performance! A Tesla is one of the most powerful street cars on the road - it would be cool to have that stealth and performance in an off road vehicle.

I read something along the same lines. They pointed out that the manufacturing of the batteries and at some point the disposal of the batteries was not being fully thought out. What do you do w/ all those batteries when you have to replace them? You can't just dump them in a landfill.

I gonna guess that those calling for the demise of the EPA are too young to recall things like American cities with air that looked like present day Beijing, Acid rain that peeled the paint off your car, or rivers so polluted they caught fire. So what's the price of a clean environment? Regulations. How much is too much will continue to be debated, but I'll take a little too much over not quite enough, and my kids kids will be better off for it.

I enjoy how everyone feels everything the government does has an alternative motive and it cant just be what it is . We have standards layed out , companies aren't meeting them and trying to move forward . How can you blame the EPA ? But I suppose everyone thinks they need a diesel and that the EPA is only looking for money and dosent care about things like the environment.

lol... I grew up on a farm and loved the smell of those diesel tractors firing up in the morning. Not saying it was good for me, but to each their own I guess.
