Hey y'all I found there to be a lack of ideas on here on how to install a diesel heater in the bed without doing one of those portable pelican case systems. I can post more detailed information if people want it but the gist of it is I wanted it to be desiel so I could buy the cheap Amazon one. I didn't want the tank anywhere in my truck and I don't have a swing out bumper. I haven't used it yet so we'll see how it works out in practice. Excuse the rough finish, it's going inside a cabinet so I wasn't too concerned.

Interesting setup. Do you use a funnel to fill it or are you able to maneuver a jerrycan without too much problem?

Just filling from the pump. I think anything else would be a PITA

Well done. This is the install that makes the most sense in a Tacoma, IMO, and I've seen a LOT of installs. I'm wondering if you've had a chance to use it much and if it held up over the summer, etc. Would you do anything different or have you made modifications? I'm wondering if the gas tank wiggled out. I'm not sure the pump is vertical enough...have you had any issues with the heater getting enough fuel? But overall, it looks great, safe, and I'd like to do it this way. How did you fabricate the cover, is that aluminum? It almost looks plastic. It's so dusty that I can't tell what material you used. Any more details or updated would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm curious as to why you would mount that long term? Are you in a climate where you would need a heater all the time? I run the cased version and modified the tank to use a Rotopax. I've had the heaters tank spill too many times and diesel is a smell thats hard to get rid of, ha.

I'm also wondering how it performs? That fuel pump is supposed to be close to a 45 degree angle. What about offroading? Does it get banged around? or covered in dirt?

I'm interested in the OP setup, which is why I asked him about it. Your setup won't work for what I do. I stealth camp near ski resorts in Maine & NH so definitely can't pop the rooftop tent in a condo parking lot or trail head. We use the heater 8 months out of the year up here and it drops to -20F. Also, I want the entire unit inside my living space and only the exhaust and combustion intake outside the living space. This is because I don't want to suck CO into my living space. Your setup could potentially do that on a calm night...just keep that exhaust as far away from your heat exchange intake as possible and have a CO detector in that tent. I'll have a CO alarm too. Safety first.

Gotcha, that makes sense then for your application. Using a heater 8 months out of the year? Ooof. I'm cold just thinking of that, ha. And yes, I do have an alarm in my tent. I somehow seem to always hit the test button whenever I'm getting back in too, ha.
