My VW TDI weighs in at almost 3100lbs, compared to my Gen 1 Tacoma at 3500. While the VW is more aerodynamic, that does not account for it having one hell of a 0-60 compared to the Toyota. I think it would not be 30k well spent, but I would love the TDI torque curve in my Toyota. Now if you look at the torque in my F250 - While it might not keep up with my VW, it would do a damn good try - even while towing a 7k trailer. My gen 1 does what I want it to, but it feels like an underpowered go cart when I try to accelerate.

and that is why we look at supercharging, turbocharging or oem/non-oem diesel swaps.

I didn't foot the bill for my 1KZ. :anonymous:

But man does it drive better than my 3 previous 1st Gens.

I have looked at that before but it’s just a little pricy. Pretty sure a fab shop could get a 6.6 durtymax in there for cheaper and less time somehow

Just saw this. You all know what I think about diesel, but if I would ever consider Diesel Tacoma this is what I'd be looking for as a replacement for my 2.7 engine:

Is is very very clever idea - no head gasket to go wrong, no valves to adjust and it doesn't even need EGR for emission. I wish they did it without common rail, just traditional mechanical injection (no f###ing computers). The only weak spot I'd see is turbo charger that probably will be first to fail.
