the yellow line is kinda of pimp...i like it.

    Question:

The breather I took of had some play in the cap itself. The new breather did not have any play.

    Any takers?

Not a problem. Mine was the same way. To be sure, I "blew" through the new breather plug like blowing through a straw, and the air passed through just fine. I did the same thing with the diff end of the hosing right before connecting it to the diff, and again, the air went through no problems.

I think the replacement part is supposed to be "always open" in a sheltered area while the original breather on the diff itself is supposed to open/close depending on conditions, hence the difference.

OK, watched the video and the guy brought up a point that begs a question for this mod. Is the Camry valve a one way valve that still shuts when there is negative pressure, or is it a filter like the video suggests? The video points out that when the hot diff cools quickly (like when you cross a creek) the valve is sucked hopefully shut by the negative pressure preventing water to enter. He then goes on to explain that even if the stock valve shuts and seals against water, the water then gets sucked in at the axle seals because there is no other way for air to enter the cooling diff.

Extending a stock one way valve up to the gas tank flap may keep it above water, but if it still sucks shut when you cross a creek with a hot diff you will still get water sucked through the axle seals, right??

See, when the diff cools rapidly the rush of air sucks the vent closed. With it extended you have 2-3ft of hose to buffer that rush of air. So it shouldn't be strong enough to pull the vent closed. And even if it created a vacuum strong enough to put the vent closed it's able to pull more air into the diff than without the hose attached.

Ah, makes sense. I wasn't thinking of the amount air created with the extension. Thanks.

wow i've never heard of this happening....everyone i know has gone through mud and water in their trucks....i mean not like 4 feet of water but you know...through mudholes and stuff....i didn't even know diff's had a breather on them til i saw this...lol...crazy...maybe the axle seals are better at keeping water out nowdays?...i have no idea...i never had any problems in my old truck but i don't go riding through 3 or 4 ft of water either.....lol...but it seems the breather would still close after the mod...i mean the new hose would have to be water tight....i would be afraid it would leak water where you attached the hose on top of the diff.....not sure the clamp would make it water tight....i dunno seems kinda risky to me....but if it was water tight then wouldn't it be better to put a filter thing on the end like the video rather than the breather so it wouldn't close?

dunno why i never posted in here

i did mine a bit different...because...well...the easy way isnt as much fun

i forget the size fittings i used...but they were all available at lowes in the plumbing section and theyre all brass

i used the coiled yellow air hose because it provides for plenty of slack in the event i need it for some unknown reason

i think i spent less than $10 total on all parts...3 fittings and the hose...

i routed my hosing up to the plastic shroud around the gas door...

might be a dumb question but what is the purpose of putting the teflon tape on the side of the camaray union that goes inside the diff? Is it just to make it watertight?
