Diff Drop/Limiting Straps Question

    You keep breaking CV's because you are exceeding their operating angles. I'm assuming you don't have manual hubs, because they are disconnected in 2WD, ADD would still spin them in 2WD.


    You have to lower it so the CV's aren't at their maximum operating angle at ride height. Then you will be able to use them without snapping them all the time, especially when flexing it. Lower it and match both sides in height by measuring to the fender from the ground or something. Coilover preload will be different on each side, thats just what will happen.

    Yeah thats exactly whats going on. Was pretty much just wondering if limiting straps or a diff drop would help with this or if there should be other solutions

    I never had it happen on mine when lifted on coilovers pre SAS, with your extended travel coilovers you might need to strap it. I wouldn't bother with a diff drop, thats one of the reasons I want a lift, provide more clearance. If you want to lower your diff I'd just as well turn the coilovers down a little. If you still have issues then strap it.

    I think my skids would be fine with .5" of drop though.. the folds of the boots are still touching so I guess lowering it is the next step, since I can't get straps in before this weekend

    I have bud built skids with a diff drop. Fits just fine. I got my diff drop from Sonoran Steel. They make the spacers angled a bit on one side the account for the fact that you are basically "rotating" the front side of the diff downward some. I'd get that

    I lowered my coilovers to 2" and still broke another O'Riley's CV. Thinking it was just the CV, I purchased CVJ axles with high angle boots. Installed them this morning, took them on a test run and...

    That didn't take long!! Same spot, same side. Inner passenger comes unseated and rips the boot. I have no idea what could be wrong.. its always this side. Its always this spot. If it was the tires (285s) why wouldn't the other side break? Same with the travel issue? I mean honestly what the fuck is going on....

    I wonder if your alignment or frame is slightly bent or something causing it to have more issues on the one side...

    Passenger floor to bottom of fender 41"
    Passenger center of hub to bottom of fender 25"

    -.5inches for those on the driver, so the passenger is .5" higher

    is it possible diff mounting brackets are in in wrong orientation so diff is pushed to far to the passenger side? that would explain everything thats happened just about.

    41" from fender to ground with a 33" tire is about 5" over stock. :eek:

    Which Foxes are you referencing? The 2.5" Adjustable COs, IFP or RR? Do you have a pic of how much pre-load you have them adjusted to?

    I can grab one tomorrow of the driver's side, in a different town tonight. Not going to swap it until my tests next Wednesday though just so I don't obsess :rofl::rofl:

    2.5" coilovers. There are just under 2.25" of threads showing on both sides.

    This is the driver's side. Both coilovers are set the same, but can take pics tomorrow evening, since this is the wrong side and there's no reference. Tire is off the ground suspension is drooped

    Looks like a lot of pre-load to me. Also, from the clean threads, it looks like you've added some recently too. A 1/2" of threads translates to an 1" of lift.

    Which coils and what are they rated for?
