If I put a 2 in leveling kit on the front of my 09 Tacoma do I need to do the differential drop?

No. More (potential) hard than good.

Will the leveling kit cause any extra stress on anything?

Short answer: yes, CV angle will change. But it's not a huge deal.

Diff drop not needed for 2nd and 3rd Gen. Do lots of research before you start lifting your truck. There's alot more to lifting these trucks than just installing a set of coilovers or a spacer. Welcome to TW and good luck with your truck.

I'm not really going to be doing any trails or anything. Mostly back and forth to work and on the farm. Is it worth the potential issues to make it look better? Its my first Tacoma, I've only had it for about 2 weeks..

Tacomas look awesome unlifted. Enjoy your truck the way it is. It’s not worth the headache associated with a lift just to have a higher mall crawler.

Agreed. Lifting them is for better functionality off road. If you have money to blow for looks I guess why not though.
