I need some quick help. I started installing my Ironman 4x4 skid plate set and found very quickly that there was fouling on the diff supports at the front crossmember.

I called Ironman and they said that diff-drops are a common installation issue. I measured the pucks for the diff-drop and they come in somewhere around 1.5".

The folks said that given my lift, which I assume is 2" or less (the rear blocks are 1.5"; I bought the truck from a Toyota dealer with the lift already installed) said that removing the diff-drop pucks wouldn't be an issue with my lift height.

Before I do that, I wanted to check to see what y'all thought.

the general opinion is that diff drops are pointless under around 3 inches of lift.

You may get front diff needle bearing noise after removing the diff drop, as its a common issue for guys who lift their tacomas. Makes a sort of rotational howling noise that goes away when you put the truck in 4wd. easy fix tho.

Yep, pull the diff drop, you'll be fine.

Thanks y'all. I pulled it out and everything seems quite fine. The skid plate Install went mostly good and it feels like a really solid product.

I also ditched the diff drop when I realized my skid wouldn't fit snug
