Quick question guys, but first hope everyone is doing well today.

ok i just bought another tacoma a 2004 trd its a B03 which is a 4.10 gear ration with the electronic rear differential lock but the rear end on the truck now is all rotted and no good it ran with out oil and blew it by pervious owner.

My question is can i install a regular 4.10 with out diff lock to the my truck that does have diff lock i know it will work because its the same gear ratio but will the check engine come if ut sense it doesnt have the diff lock system?

I have a really nice complete 4.10 rear end sitting at my shop just waiting to be installed lol.

Easy way to find out would be to go unplug the harness for the locker and take a drive or even just start it if it's immobile. If I was going to bet I'd say there wont be any lights at all.

If you're talking about swapping the entire axle and housing, that should work fine. The housings are different between the locker and non-locker axles, so you can't swap the diffs/3rd members.

With a whole new axle/housing, at most all you'd likely need to do is ground out one of the terminals on the plug, but I don't think you'll need to do that.

Yeah thats the plan change the whole thing Install whole entire new rear end with same gear ratio.

What do mean by ground out the terminal? Anything electrical i am not good at lol anything els im good. So you think if i dont ground the terminal of the diff lock harness the check engine will turn on?

Should be fine. If you get lights, you may have to just pull the 4wd control behind the kick panel on the driver's side

Is it driveable at all? If so, just unplug the harness to the locker and drive it for a bit. If you don't get any flashing lights, you're fine; ignore me and move on, lol

But if you do get some sort of diff lock flashing light or a check engine light, familiarize yourself with the wiring diagram of the locker system. There should be a way to rewire the plug so it thinks the locker is still connected (that's usually by connecting one of the plug terminals to a ground), but that's only IF you get flashing lights on the dash....

Wouldn't taking out the 4wd control on the driver side kick panel. Make the 4wd in general not work?

He could just pull the 4wd control and be done with it. It has no other use as far as I know

That would be my thought as well, but I can't say for sure.

Nah, I have a 4x4 and didnt have a 4wd control and mine worked. I had to pick one up with the elocker rear end. Plugged it and the button into the existing harnesses and the RR diff light works now.

I'm pretty sure it's just the ECU for the locker, but they named it the 4wd control computer: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2wd-with-4wd-computer.357710/

I actually tried the reverse. I'm swapping an elocker rear end into my truck. I did not have the 4wd control computer or the RR Diff lock button before. Once I bought them, I plugged the 4wd control computer and diff lock button in, and the RR Diff Lock light on the dash started working (which I think is the only light you would see). So, if you take out the 4wd control computer and RR diff lock button, it would just be like a regular non-TRD OR 4x4. Then you can sell the button and computer. Is the e locker actuator messed up too?

Should be easy to sell. You can test it with 2 1.5v batteries to see if it works

Or actually, just push the button before pulling the computer and see if it works
