lunchboxes in the front is a horrible idea like stated above. in the rear its not as bad as people say, my buddy has one in his taco and i use to have one in my old rig and they were completely fine just not pinning it on corners. I would already have one in my taco but since i got my wheeling ticket that locker has been put on the back burner..

Yes, if you are patient and look around, you can find a complete axle, wiring, computer and switch for under $1k. Then it is plug and play. Or you can find them piece by piece and just put it together as you find it.

What does the computer control? just the light right? And couldnt you wire the switch to a power source and have it work the same without the computer

Honestly, I don't know for sure. I think it is to engage the elocker and disengage the ABS. Everything is computer controlled :pccoffee:

I did a quick google search this morning and found 3 complete rear axles w/elocker and all components for $650 - $900 + shipping.

I found this awesome link on a different forum :crapstorm:, it should answer anyone's questions about their axles.

I plan to do an axle swap as soon as I can save the money for it. So I have been researching it since I bought this tacoma. However, my wife and two kids do not seem to hold the importance of this mod as highly as I do. Although my 4 year old son is easily persuaded to my side of the argument for a cookie, but my wife always finds some way to win him back.

I know a guy who did this. He used a relay setup kinda like that link. If I do this I'll probably go that way as well.

I subbed. I'm also new here, and have been lurking these threads, as well as many other forums looking for help, so im just asking my question in similarly titled threads, instead of starting a whole new one. Flame me for hijacking. its cool.

Anyway, I have a 96 5lug 2WD non locking M/T, not sure which gear ratio. Its a daily driver, as well as my desert toy. no 4wheeling, obviously. no rock crawling. When we go out, we hit the sand hard and fast. I havent gotten stuck, but ive been in some situations where i know having a locker would help.

I know the differences in basic operation with ARBs, Elockers, etc, and I'd like to do the easiest, cheapest, and most effective swap that I can. I've heard that I can swap the rear axle from a 4runner or a trd tacoma with minimal work. however, these would be 6lug, and have to flip the ubolts to mount the leafs over the axle, right?

I want to get my baby some new long travel, wheels/tires, etc. but I know that I can't do any of that until i get the axle squared away. If you could answer my questions, or even just link me to something more useful, any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

    ~Mike

ps Sorry for the hijack OP
