Lol not bs, I just don't have any idea why changing the diff fluid made the taco drive very noticeably better. Bottom line is I changed diff fluid and truck drives great now. No idea.

Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
I replaced mine at 93k and it had never been done before. It was NASTY ! but she drove noticeably better. Maybe your truck just runs smoother with a higher quality gear oil like mine did?

Definitely driving better. Don't know how or why but I'll take it. My taco was really starting to piss me off. We will see how long it lasts. Hopefully it stays this way and I don't have to deal with this crap anymore.

Hmmm. OP posts how awesome his diff oil change was for his wonky transmission. We all go out and change our diff oil. Those with howling diffs go to dealer to get them checked out. Toyota tests diff oil and finds it's not original. Denies all howling diff claims and cites unauthorized service.

You'd be surprised. My 2005 tundra had strange behavior and somewhat kinda felt like it "kicked" when I bought it with 98k. I changed diff fluid and it was a HUGE change.

Same thing with a gx460 my brother just bought. He did a rear diff change and reported big difference in trans operation.

So don't spout off so quickly chief.

I get you mean though. We had 95k+. OP has 30k. Go figure.

Speaking of spouting there bucko, step up to the mike an 'splain how that works. Not anecdotally, mechanically.

I'll even give you a head start, and agree wonky driveability will occur with a failing diff.

So maybe the question is how does a fluid change fix the failing rear? Especially since he used the same type fluid?

    Your turn. I'm all ears.

Well, actually signing off for the night. Look forward to the results with my morning OJ.

I have no doubt that the diff does not affect anything with the trans. But the trans issues everyone seems to have including myself are pretty much gone now. So the questions are 1) why would changing the diff oil make my crappy trans symptoms go away 2) are symptoms of diff issues similar to transmission issues 3) maybe I have mistaken my "shitty transmission" symptoms and they were actually bad diff or oil symptoms. I don't know. Either way I'm interested in what everyone thinks

I'm going to change my transmission oil and see if that takes care of the whistle in the rear-end....

I know little to nothing about diffs and the mechanics involved, so taking a wild guess: could the original diff have had some sort of unintended "drag" or other handicap on the gears within it, as a result of type or level of oil? If so, would that not require additional effort from the powertrain to "compensate," and thus result in non-ideal tranny behaviour?

although everyone is sure there's zero relationship, the fact is they are mechanically connected. and lubricated. with the oil he changed.

nobody here can know for sure.
