I have a 2006 Tacoma Base 4x4 2.7L 5SP Manual with ARB air lockers front and rear. I’m pretty sure I have a open diff as one axle goes in reverse when the opposite one goes forward. ARB does not recommend using gear oil with LS additives. How do you tell on the bottle what gear oils have additives. I need API GL-5 90-140 synthetic or semi synthetic. You’d think it wouldn’t be very hard to find a oil without additives to avoid prematurely wearing out the seals on the air locker, but they don’t make it easy. All help much appreciated. I’ve looked at Redline, Royal Purple, Castro, Aimsoil, Mobile 1, Valvoline. All of these companies don’t specify if it has additives or not. They will say things such as “exceeds gl-5 specifications”, or “maximum gear protection”, or other weird things like synotrac(valvoline) I just the meat and taters of gear oil. No BS.

Any gear oil with LSD additive in it will say it contains the additive on the bottle. It needs to be clearly stated for the folks that do need it. If it's not stated on the bottle then it's safe to assume there's no LSD additive.

Is that the same with all additives? Such as friction modifiers, extreme pressure additives etc?

That says it contains a advanced additive system, and also advertises it can be used for LSD. Wtf, lol.
