Wondering if anyone has any tips on a decent and cheap carrier and pinion bearing puller tool? The Yukon tool can be had for 350 plus about 70 shipping to me, just wondering if anyone has experience with say a jegs kit that is 100 bones or so cheaper. (And the part number thereof)

I will most likely use this tool to set up my front and rears, and then it will collect dust unless I get another toyota, or help someone else out with the job. In other words it doesn't need to be indestructible.

Im going to regear myself to 4.88s, I have the toyota side adjuster wrenches, dial indicator, and inch pound torque wrench on the way. Other than a few big sockets, I believe I'm just missing the puller.

    Thanks for any input

I was thinking about it, at least I can tell everyone what NOT to do. Trying to decide if I want to buy a shop press or bring it somewhere, would really be nice to have it at here in case I need to change shims behind the pinion.

Edit - only have to worry about the possibility of pressing it one more than once on the pinion, luckily on our diff the free play between pinion and ring is set by the adjusters.

How did it go? Should have been a breeze with that tool list.

Dude it would be cheaper to buy a master kit and just replace the bearings. Cut halfway through and hit with a cold chisel to break them if need be. You will be happy you bought the press. I have a HF and it's actually held up well with quite a few jobs on it.

Oh - and tell us what not to do.

And if you haven’t done this yet - may want a long brass punch and seal drivers set to get the races in and out.

The Yukon and Nitro clam shell pullers are worth 2x the amount. I've found nothing else that works as good and can so easily remove bearings without damage. It works on more than just diffs too.
