What is the difference between oils with 1 and 2 numbers? E.g. 75w85 and 75w

    Simplified

The one with 1 number means it is a constant viscosity. Cold and hot.
The one with 2 numbers and a “w” means it act like a lower viscosity when cold.

Viscosity can be thought of as how thick the oil is, although technically they are different.
It’s easier to explain it that way.
