Does the 2022 sr5 v6 4x4 have the same engine as the trd sport? If so then what would be the major difference between the two models?

    Same engine. Different suspension.
Mostly springs, shocks, and sway bar are the biggest differences.

Crawl mode in TRD requires a different brake controller system (micro-adjustments during crawling) but most of the time you do not notice that.

Both trims use the vacuum booster (vacuum pump). That make the engine slight different from OR, Pro trims
Sport trim has a better interior. SR5 has a real key.

Suspension is different, brake set up is a little different and hood scoop. I think some TRD Sports can be optioned with a locking rear differential and all TRDs have a bigger rear diff than SR5.

Personally I don't know why the Sport model even exists, that and the Limited are the most useless trims, just get an SR5

Doesn't affect the engine at all

Is the exact same engine, brake hardware differs slightly but it's the same. Exact. Engine.

It does. You cannot swap OR engine to SR5/Sport. TW has all the information

    Check the door VIN sticker.
SR5/Sport have 8" diff size vs 8.8" OR.
So you cannot use oem locker on Sport. Need to swap the axle.

You must learn how to covertly contribute on threads you do not fully know. I recalled *something* about differences in the brake system but not "cannot put OR into SR5". So I introduced the idea ... then let others fill in AND will steal as much credit as possible from the situation. You do not need to be really knowlegdable, just deceitful and underhanded. :D:thumbsup::devil:

There are only 2 engines for the 3rd gen Tacoma, the I4 and the V6.

All MT v6s come with a 8.8” ring gear.

Op is trying to make a purchasing decision. So he needs to know all small differences that may have some affect down the road.
Like I was. Did not know that some SR/SR5/Sport came with 3.72 diff instead 3.91.
On the brochure, all look identical.

Here is the diff no pun intended! :rasta:

I used to own two 2nd Gen OR’s, last was a 2012 with ATRAC. After owning the SR5 since 2018 with numerous outings in 4WD, and recoveries using the TRAC system…it is super bad to the bone. With lockers, it’s a stout machine I can only imagine. I only have the rear. The quick anytime locker is a great function. Highly recommend it for a little bit more traction, and sometimes a lot.

I almost shopped for a 2023, but then realized I have been super stoked with the SR5ster, and most importantly, the fact that the OR traction control systems can only be used in 4LO(?).

    Indeed.

I originally thought I could buy an SR (to save $$ now) and upgrade "a few things" later. Maybe add a rear locker, upgrade to LED headlights, etc.

Now I know better. Different headlight leads for SR/SR5 and TRD, missing harnesses in the bed. Now the small but significant differences that one must plan for or be stuck with bigger upgrade costs later.

And agreed they do look the same from the outside except for that bed-sticker.
