I'm just not a a fan of the e-locker...I have had air lockers on three of my rigs overs the years and never had an issue...not here to argue with you, but some of the features with the new off-road seemed like gimmickry to me is all, I'm just old school like that...if you like it great, just not my thing. My entire point to the OP is that there are other options.

You can get both the sport and the off-road in the long bed versions

So many users have said get the Sport and "just add lockers..." Has anyone actually done it? At least some OR owners have done the non-functional scoop swap. Also, e-lockers work great and are durable. No difference in function or durability at all from when I had air lockers in my old Tacoma.

Yes I found that out when I bought my truck. Made the decision very easy. Add $500 for the long bed in either model

only the manual offroad has it because of lack of crawl control. on the automatics, the big knob for crawl control is there.

I got a Sport because I wanted the aesthetic stuff, there was one with the exact config in the exact color I wanted with no wait (guy ordered it then backed out) and my boy at the dealer put the right numbers together so...easy decision. Crawl control and e-locker seem like a cool thing to have, but I'd likely never use them. I prefer prerunners anyway for several reasons. "Upgraded" suspension and the "off road wheels and tires" didn't matter because I'm going to replace all that with aftermarket anyway, like anyone who wants to actually "off road" or make their truck look cool.

Don't be lazy, search and read the info that has been disussed before...

Sounds like for you the off road is more to your taking. Ride is a personal preference. Content is about the same on both in terms of features except off road goodies and a few exterior cosmetic bits...

It seriously is a "looks" vs. "function" choice.
The Sport is all about looks. It has no additional traction features than the base Tacoma.
The Off Road is all about traction functions. It has the locking differential, and on the 4x4 models, it has the A-TRAC system with the hydraulic brake booster. On the 2016+ automatics, the A-TRAC is in the Multi-Terrain system.

Sport because I wanted manual transmission and long bed. It handles fine for any "off-roading" I'll be doing - ie. graded national forest roads. Slightly better gas mileage is a plus (edit: compared to the OR MT).

I re-geared (4:88's) also at the same time...total was around $4,500, but just the locker is around $950/ea I believe??

I did lockers front & rear and a compressor too

Folks keep saying the sport doesn't have any extra traction, then what to hell do I keep shutting off? It says it's traction control, and I even hold the button down longer to shut off the other thing that my light display says is LSD. So unless my truck has been dropping acid and confused the letters, isn't that an extra traction aide?

I said it has no more traction than base Tacomas do. All Tacomas since 2009 have TRAC (AUTO LSD, TRAC OFF) and VSC.

Only the Off Road has ADDITIONAL traction choices over the other Tacomas.

Can you elaborate on these differences?

You mean what the Off Road has? Go to this to learn about them all:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...to-lsd-trac-off-vsc-off.464400/#post-13854370

Here are the three levels that only the 4x4 Off Roads have available:

    8) A-TRAC/MTS with A-TRAC button pressed or multi-terrain dial used, the truck has traction control on the front and rear that nearly matches locking differentials for the amount of spin control. Always use this when in L4 unless spinning tires is desired. This mode should be all the Tacoma needs for any off roading. Only use #9 or #10 if #8 does not move your truck.

    9) Locking Rear Differential. To be used for emergency only per Toyota. Locks the rotation of both rear tires together. Steering control is affected, so it is recommended to only use to get unstuck and not over 5 mph.

    10) A-TRAC/MTS + Locking Rear Differential. This adds near locker-like spin control on the front tires while the rear is locked. Use for emergency perhaps when pulling a stuck vehicle. Maximum traction, but use only in straight runs and only as long as needed.
