I just purchased a set of used alloy wheels for my '01 Tacoma, and I'm hearing that I need a different type of lug nut for them...anyone know anything about this?

Look up the manufacturers wed site and find the rim, then see what they say.

I have aftermarket rims that required a smaller lug nut because the stock ones hit the center cap and didnt recess into the rim enough, so yes you probably need to get new ones.
