I have an '01 Tacoma 4 X 4 that came with stock steel rims. I finally found a nice set of aluminum alloys for a great price, but now I'm hearing that I need different lug nuts. Toyota wants $7 each which comes to $168. I put the wheels on with the original lugs, and I noticed that they are tapered on the bottom. The steel rims have tapered holes to match the lugs. On the alloys, there is no taper, and it looks like like they take a flat bottomed lug (no taper).

My question is, is it acceptable and safe to use the old lugs or not? Conceivably, I guess the tapered lugs could 'dig' into the aluminum alloys a bit, but that seems kind of far-fetched. Can anyone help me with this??

    Thanks!

    None yet! It's new!
You need lug nuts for alloys. I bought a pile of them at Les Schwab for $.99 each. Chrome. That was about a year ago. Don't buy something like that from the dealer.
